The new MINI JCW GP is now on its global distribution. Its development spanned for over two years, which is a very long time if you think about it. That’s why there’s an anticipation building up among supporters and enthusiasts. This is the first time in MINI’s history book to launch a model gearing with over 300 HP, making it the most powerful hatch they ever made.
That is the third JCW GP’s biggest title earned to its name. This car is undeniably fast with only 1,200 kilos to carry around. Even so, more than its speed, expectations grow higher among some people. This includes the trademark ‘go kart’ feel of the car and in someway that’s not exactly what you’re getting. Well, that is according to this video below. As stated by Henry Catchpole in the video below, this car is all over the place.
Sure it has the speed, but it is lacking in control. And while that is true, I have to say it depends with the type of surface you’re on. With a stiff, unrelenting suspension, this sure is a harsh car. It will jiggle around on poor roads but definitely shines when taken in to the track or smooth roads.
It’s not like defending MINI at all. The problem is, most of the time a car like the JCW GP will be driven on public roads and you can’t simply expect that people will only drive it on perfect asphalt. That issue should’ve been taken into account even before the car came out. Also, the gearbox was yet another disappointment.
But it’s better to hear out Henry explain further why the cogswapper doesn’t live up to the expectations.
