[Video] Production process of the BMW iX3 at Shenyang Plant

This week is a momentous event for BMW and its electric segment. With their second ever BEV in production for the first time, that electrifying moment was caught on camera.

Assembled at the Shenyang plant in China, BMW iX3 creates a brand new history for the German brand. Which is going through the odds with their flexible and modular architectures moving forward.

In this video, we get to see the production process for the iX3. This special car includes a couple of specific processes. Within the segment, the BMW X3 is the first range to offer three different powertrains. It has options such as mild-hybrid, fully-electric BEV and regular combustion engine. BMW has made this possible with their flexible platform and remaining faithful to their “power of choice” motto.

BMW is hoping to cater to different EV preferences of customers by not developing specific platforms. Also, modifying the production depending on the demand will be a lot easier. The production process looks like how any other X3 are made, only with a few notable differences.

For one, there’s the empty transition tunnel, housing for just a bunch of cables. Meanwhile, the rear axle incorporates the electric motor. As for the entire suspension and powertrain modules, these are linked as one unit.

Additionally, you can see some interesting details hidden in this video. The iX3 EVs production takes place in Shenyang plant in China, and will then be shipped around the world. Being BMW’s largest plant worldwide, the Shenyang location in Dadong uses state of the art technology. In association with its local partner, Brilliance Automotive. The expected arrival of the first iX3 models to dealers will be later this year.
