The first press cars of the new BMW M2 CS are getting reviewed and you can tell that the Internet is going for it. Meanwhile, the guys from CarWow have put on a show for us: a drag race featuring the latest M2 CS. Except the car is not going up against its traditional rivals. Being a rear-wheel drive Coupe, the M2 CS is not a hatch unlike the Mercedes-AMG A45 S or the Audi RS 3.
Lining up at the start line is a RWD Coupe and two hot hatches. Although, the three have almost the same specs, the BMW is the only one without all-wheel-drive. And that part is rather important when it comes to drag racing over the 1/4 mile. We’lll see if being the lightest of the three and having the fastest shifting gearbox can make up for it.
The AMG 145 S seems to be a favorite because it can develop a 421 HP and 500 Nm despite having only a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. We can also expect it to be really fast since it has a DCT gearbox to rely on. The Audi we get to see here is the oldest car in the race.
As the 2016 RS3 was tuned, it now makes a 450 HP and 750 Nm of torque. And considering the size of the engine under the hood, that really is a lot! Now, it matches the HP of the M2 CS and beats its torque by 200 Nm.
M2 CS’ biggest issue would probably be the launch from standstill. As it is a rear-wheel drive car, setting it in motion without kindling up the tires will be a tough ordeal. Yet in some way, Mat manages to keep it together and we had a very interesting results.
