Many car enthusiasts will be taking a close look at the BMW i4 M50 now that it is on sale. With so many BMW customers unfamiliar with electric vehicles, it’s understandable that they might shy away from buying one. Switching from a BMW 3 or 5 Series to an electric i4 could be an eye-opening experience for some.
This is the M Performance variant of BMW’s new all-electric i4 model. It is the M Division’s first EV as it is an M Performance model that has been tweaked by the M Division. To reach 536bhp, it has two electric motors, one on each axle, each producing 586lb-ft of torque. BMW claims it will sprint from zero to sixty in 3.9 seconds. That’s about the same time it takes the M3 Competition.
For first time buying an EV, they want to know how far they can drive on a single charge. They want to know whether they will be stranded on the side of the road when the battery runs out, and how long it will take to recharge it if they are lucky enough to find a station. That is why range is the most important criterion that buyers check. It is estimated that the i4 M50 has a daily range of 270 miles, which is more than sufficient for the everyday needs of the vast majority of Americans.
Once you get the hang of it, driving an electric car is very similar to driving a petrol-powered vehicle. The BMW sedans owners will find the i4 an easy transition as it is based on the 4 Series Gran Coupe. The interior remains largely the same, with the exception of one thing: the new iDrive 8 touchscreen. Check out the video above for the BMW i4 M50 review.
