Re: Low end torque
Marketing drives product differentiation even within the same model. Engineering has to execute this at the lowest possible cost and what better way then just to tweak the engine to detune it.
So presumably E60 523 owners can recover this "lost ponies" relatively easily?
Re: Low end torque
I've read somewhere in Bimmerfest that there is this vacuum actuated valve that closes/opens one of the twin pipes before the tail muffler which serves as some sort of a noise-control mechanism and some Americans have gone to disconnect the vacuum tube and plugged it with...
Re: Spark Plugs
Review by TripleM sounds very tempting. :D

Excerpt from Denso Iridium Website:
"Generally, you do not purchase spark plugs for performance enhancement. While DENSO Iridium Power spark plugs have contributed to numerous accomplishments through dyno-testing and...
Re: Spark Plugs
From my experience, spark plugs by themselves are unable to yield any measurable gains on the dyno; that is even if the car in question were to pull a few runs, the variance in the reading alone using the same plug would already have negated or "masked" the gains (if any at...
Re: New Z4 Coupe
Hehe I beg to differ; I actually quite like the look of the Z4 Coupe. Has got that element of cab-back swoopy body pert-bump design of prevalent in British sportscar design! :D
Re: PML E90 330i
You may be right about that performance gap. I have read from somewhere that BMW will be developing a turbocharged engine with performance that will just place it between the 330 and the E90 M3.
The German horsepower race is still on...will be interesting to see Merc...
Re: BMC Air Filter
I have already checked out the one that J4C carries. It looks the same as BMC on the exterior. As for the interior design, it's simply a conical filter placed within the CF casing. If you look at the BMC design, the filter seems to be cylindrical with some kinda velocity...
Re: Newbie
What should all ladies have?
Do you not have what all ladies shouldn't have?
I have what all men have but that does not mean that I am a man cos' I've not been to any gathering yet and hence have no alibi to my gender. :D
Hi guys,
Have you seen those "enlarged" Jap-made airflow chambers (carbon fibre or aluminium) that are installed on cars like Honda S2000? Basically these chambers sit between the airflow meter (after the air-filter) and the throttle body; said to improve throttle response. See...
Re: Joy dampened by lacklustre SMG-1
OK, I guess this is part and parcel of owning and driving an SMG. Your M3 must be a blast to drive with what.... 0.18sec shifts? I will get used to it. I appreciate it more during drives back home along the CTE!
Re: Joy dampened by lacklustre SMG-1
Nice try buster! :D
I was analyzing "sports mode" just now and I probably see the reason why BMW defaults it to "off" on engine startup.
I was along this very quiet road, my windows are up, my air-con is off and my hearing is acute (probably because...
Re: Joy dampened by lacklustre SMG-1
Hi,
Mine is the older 2003 5-spd SMG (2.5 years old). I have stopped driving it in auto mode and only use the manual mode.
Is yours the SMG2? I heard that one is better with the option to tune the shift speed to suit personal driving preference and...
Re: Joy dampened by lacklustre SMG-1
OK, I will join you guys for the next meetup and a fellow SMGer can drive my car to see if it is normal.
If it is indeed normal, then psychologically I would feel better knowing that nothing is broken.
What system is yours? The Porsche Tiptronic...
Hi,
Recently dumped my hardcore turboed Jap coupe for a more sedate and comfortable E46 325. You know the joints between your bones are getting on when you start to dread Japanese coilovers over speed bumps; it's like a much welcomed transition from hardcore to softporn. First the good...
I have observed early 2001 models (80% parf) ones going for about 95-105k region, depending on options available.
E39 took a big hit from the E60 but that is only expected since they look radically different.
What is SWC? They do custom bodykit?
To be honest, I have been quite suckered into the look of the E60. IMHO, it looks more butch and sporty than the incoming E90. The E90 does not make the E46 look like ah-gong (grandpa) but the E60 certainly makes the E39 look grey at the temples and in the...
