0W-30 vs 5W-50

guys... need your opinions here...

just did an engine oil change to 5W-50... I know BMW recommends 0W-30 for the entry level valvetronics... so what am I really doing here... the oil is thicker right???

initally I didnt really like it... the car felt a little sluggish, maybe because of the viscoscity... but now after about a week, it feels damn smooth... not so rough...

Exactly, thicker oil provides a better cushion to fill up those 'gaps' so the engine feels smoother and tighter.

The question is whether there is oil loss from evaporation or burning when using the 0W-30 grade in your engine. Have been using 10W-50 on the M42 with 280k on the clock and wonderful results......
