A man was pronounced dead by paramedics while two male drivers were conveyed conscious to hospital in the aftermath of a horrific three-car accident along the East Coast Parkway in the wee hours of Saturday morning (Jul 13).

A STOMPer had sent in a report of the accident, coupled with photos that showed two of the cars which were now reduced to a mangled heap of metal after the accident.

In response to a query from STOMP about the matter, a spokesperson for the police said:

"The police received a call at 12.01am (Jul 13) requesting for assistance near the 18km mark along the ECP heading towards AYE.

"Upon arrival, it was established that an accident involving 3 cars had occurred.

"A man in his 30s was pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene.

"Two male drivers were conveyed conscious to hospital.

"Police investigations are ongoing"

Speaking to STOMP in a phone conversation, the STOMPer said:

"I came across an accident that took place along the ECP near Prince Edward Road, in the direction heading towards AYE at around 2.30am to 3.30am earlier today (Jul 13).

"Apparently, I heard that a red Lotus car was travelling in the direction towards Changi Airport, before it skidded and flung towards traffic heading in the other direction.

"It then hit another car. If I'm not wrong, a few other cars were involved in the accident as well.

"I can't be exactly sure about this but I think the male driver of the red Lotus died on the scene.

"I'm not really sure what happened to the other drivers, but I think he or she was conveyed to hospital.

"The accident caused a jam on the ECP as it took up about three lanes, which then had to blocked off."

Sad about the lotus driver. But I think the 7 series driver was saved by the car. Just shows how sturdy beemers are built.

Maybe got unsettled by that bump in the road during the sharp bend

Re: 1 dead, 2 sent to hospital after ECP crash involving Lotus and 2 other cars

Yep i happened to drove past it ard 230am.
Tried not to look but there is the police tent. Initially thought was a rx 8 from the round rear lights, crushed in half
Drive safe.

I think I know which bend.... It's going towards marina bay sands on your left... From far it seems a normal right bend, but when reach, it comes a more a cute right bend! If you are on higher gear, your car may swirl to the left to negotiate the bend... Personally i find Quite scary if you did not slow down.... Do take note...

Damn .... Need to be slow while driving at the corner ...

It's my daily road to work

Re: 1 dead, 2 sent to hospital after ECP crash involving Lotus and 2 other cars

It's sad case and I hope the other injured recovers well.

Day in day out, we have million of cars traversing this stretch of ECP. There are signs indicating it. Yes we may say that angle is acute and what not. Road may not be in a good condition and what not. Strong blinding lights from the opposite side and what not.

But roads WILL not be always, straight, perfect with no humps, non-slippery or in the best condition of all. Not always in other countries and not in Singapore.

Our vehicles will NOT always be in the best condition, tyre, engine, suspension.

Accidents whether speeding or not speeding will happen, and it could yield the worst outcome as we cannot foresee and prevent accidents, if not, it will NOT be called an accident.

Thus it's always in the drivers best interest to

1) drive slower if unsure of the terrain or road ( F1 drivers navigate the circuits countless times and map it down, we don't and the tracks are not F1 quality).
2) keep our vehicles in the best condition ( tires changed and vehicles serviced, balding tires and rain and 90kmph? )
3) obey the speed limit ( they are there for a reason, the reason is sometimes why we stay alive when the worst happens)
4) Stay alert on the road. ( multitasking like texting, calling, or whatever leads to bad endings sometimes. Single task, it's not just our lives, other lives too at stake)
5) Be a more responsible driver and practice the proper things taught during driving lessons (Signal when changing lanes and no tailgating and etc, give others a proper chance to react to our signals).

Why do the above? WE can make the roads safer and do our part as SINGAPOREANS.

Stay alive on the roads, don't depend on others. Depend on ourselves.

Don't always blame the FT/GOV/Rain/Road. Look at ourselves first. People complain about our road hogs/rages amongst others, Singaporeans still make up the major majority of users on our own roads.

Let's wait for the investigation to understand more.

Re: 1 dead, 2 sent to hospital after ECP crash involving Lotus and 2 other cars

Elise or Exige? Looks like a mangled Elise to me. Probably a soft top so it didn't help when turned turtle. These are super lightweight cars so don't stand a chance on hard impacts. But how did it fling across itself to the other side of the road? That's quite incredible..

Re: 1 dead, 2 sent to hospital after ECP crash involving Lotus and 2 other cars

Rule of thumb regardless of speed when arriving/approaching a bend, slow-in-fast-out... if fast-in will never come out... another one did not come out, RIP.

Lotus going in hot...

Re: 1 dead, 2 sent to hospital after ECP crash involving Lotus and 2 other cars

guys, the lotus was travelling towards Changi and jumped across the divider? there's a huge dent in the central divider.

so the kinks mentioned on the other side towards AYE did not come into play for this accident.

Re: 1 dead, 2 sent to hospital after ECP crash involving Lotus and 2 other cars

that huge dent was caused by a trailer few days back.
