hi experts,

wondering can 19 X 8.5J with offset 35 or 38 fit my E46 sedan?

anyone heard of Axis wheels and 5Zigen on BMW?

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

Depends on yourself. Questions to ask yourself:

1) Where do you want your wheels to sit? Right at the edge of your fender or inner a bit or very in like stock? Usually people want as far out as possible for better handling and looks.

2) How far out?

Offset > 40mm no rubbing at all, not the best look though.

Offset 38mm depends on your suspension and camber and driving habit.
Stiif suspension + aggressive camber + aggressive driving = no rubbing = no need to roll fender.
Soft suspension + not aggressive camber setting + drive aggressively = will rub occassionally
Soft suspension + not aggressive camber setting + non-aggressive driving = won't rub

Offset 35mm looks the best but will need to roll your fender quite a bit. Confirm rub.

Overall, I would say 38mm is just right for an E46 SEDAN. Good balance of function and looks.

All the above statements are based on 19 x 8.5J rims only. Wider rims than that will need a lot less aggressive offsets + rolling fenders to fit. Quite rare to find those unless you custom make your rims.

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

Oh another thig to consider is if you intend to put in a BBK into your car. That will narrow down your rim choices drastically as most rims will not clear BBK's.

If you choose rims with little clearance when time comes to put int your BBK, you will have 2 options:
1) buy new rims
2) choose a BBK that has a small profile like AP Racing (bloody expensive)

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

so does it mean the higher the offset the less aggressive looking?

if offset 35 or 38, do i need spacer?

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

Spacer is for pushing the rims further out towards the fender, usually used to 'correct' the offset.

If you got the right offset, no need spacers.

My car has +40 offset. No rubbing but I wished I had some +38s....

Heard of Axis wheels the mesh ones are quite nice.

Cheers and happy searching.

saw the pics on poh heng's post. but ask him an fit my car or not no reply. do you know a roughprice estimate for axis mesh?

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

Poh heng bring in axis wheels? They look good though, never seen them on bimmers locally before, but in the states.
Hes a busy chap...call his hp..

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

checked around. his price is indeed 20 to 30% cheaper than the others. i think i have to make a trip down tomorrow.

Re: 19 X 8.5J offset 35 or 38 can fit?

For e46 sedan, +38 offset is best for 19
+35 is too negative..the rear set up will hv rubbing problem (likely)
