Hi folks,
Just want to report a problem I encountered and see if anyone else having or had the same problem. My car is a 2008 pre-FL 320i, around 18 months old with 36,000km on it.
When I start the engine, I can hear a screeching sound coming loudest from the central aircon vent area. When I turn off the aircon (aka keep fan on only), the sound remains. If I turn off the fan as well, the sound still remains. It will whine/screech for 30 sec or more, then goes off.
Service advisor heard it and deduced it is the blower but I am thinking, won't the blower be switched off if I turned off the fan?
With both fan and aircon off, the car interior is eerily silent, to the extent that now I can hear a sound like frog croaking. It gets louder as I rev the engine until the engine sound drowns it out at >2000rpm. Service advisor said is related hence car need to go in for 2 days check up and possibly change blower.
Just read the forum here and seems like change blower means remove dash board! arggghhh that's the last thing I want them to do cos I am pretty sure it will come back creaking everywhere. One thing I learnt from German engineering, in particular, BMW, is that their plastic components are meant to fit in once only. The moment you remove it, the plastic holders are bent or wear off at the sides making the next time you fit it in, it will not be tight, hence the creaks.
Enough of my grunting, just disappointed with quality. First month change rear differential, now this Not to mention in between got windows creaking (fixed with tapes but now came back), misbehaving right wing mirror that is still misbehaving despite 2 visits...
p.s.: I did check for frogs... did not find one
