but u look at the england squad, the players r no small timers. all top class players.

personal feeling is that they have too big an ego to gel and also their livelyhood is much dependent on their day job.....their clubs.

Agreed especially on the ego part.

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

Australia with 10 man played better than england with 11.

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

If you look carefully, only a handful are top class players - Rooney and Gerard notably. The entire defence, including the 3 goalkeepers, cannot be deemed top class..... not to mention Heskey and Barry and Lennon.

The main problem with ENG is (1) lethargy (2) tactics. These players played more games than any World Cup teams in their domestic leagues and cup matches. As for tactics, ENG has no width playing Barry/Gerard/Lampard. Only Gerard is making all the efforts. The exclusion of Ashley Young on the left wing was a mistake. But when the symptoms showed, Capello refused to put in creative players like Joe Cole......

Tactics won the games, not the players. That's the reason some teams like MEX could knock out "top class" team like FRA.

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

Strangely, the seeded top Europen (GER, SPA, ENG, FRA or even POR) and African teams (CMR, RSA, NGA) all suffered in this World Cup. So much hype about them before the tournament, but they proved that they are not ready at all. But this has made a few last games must-watch:

FRA vs RSA
GER vs GHA
BRA vs POR
SPA vs CHI
NGA vs KOR

The South Americans impressed so far. ARG, MEX, PAR and URU all played like they are on fire.

Asians are doing better than expected. Keep it going !!!

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

still without a clear winner at this stage!

maybe we ll see a winner outside of the traditional powerhouses this year?!

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

yes, they have beaten brazil, arg n chile.

PAR probably last 8.

ITA may go home soon. As may ENG.

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

Yeah i agree that Bra and Arg looks favorites after their last game.
Luis Fabiano and Higuain suddenly on form. That spells danger.
In the Brazil side, im surprised to see Elano picked.
I dun rate Elano highly, but now he has scored 2 goals...something Rooney, Villa failed to do.
Quite ordinary player, considering the players BRA have in their squad, and he is playing well.

And look at Argentina's bench....Aguero, Milito. Knn, they could walk straight into any starting 11, but warm bench here....strength in depth.

Re: 2010 World Cup South Africa

England is full of shit n talk but cannot play. Too much ego in the team

The team arrived at training as usual yesterday and got off the bus to greet fans, but Domenech and France captain Patrice Evra stayed on the bus longer to talk.

When Domenech and Evra finally disembarked, fitness coach Robert Duverne was on the field putting down training cones.

Evra then got into an argument with Duverne and Domenech walked over to intervene. Duverne then stormed off, throwing his accreditation badge on the ground.

Evra then handed a letter to the press officer, and the players boarded the team bus and drew the curtains. Evra also claimed there was a traitor in the French team (full report in Go2010). — Additional reporting by Sapa-AP"
