225/255 are normally fitted on 8/9J. Websites suggest they can also be fitted on 8.5/9.5J which is 0.5 inch wider rims.

Has anyone fitted it in this way, and care to share some experience n maybe a pic?:) Is it ok?

Re: 225/255 on 8.5/9.5J (18 inch wheels )

i have been pondering this idea for very very long liao.
have asked many times and the consensus is 225/255 on 8.5J/9.5J is a little bit stretch especially for the front.
the suggestion is to go with 235/265. almost all aftermarket rims are made in 8.5J/9.5J width
if i change rim i have to change tyres too :(
hope to see some pix who run 225/255 on 8.5J/9.5J rim :)

those work too...some tires will look overstretched..

i recall in e46 days....the stock 19 rear was on 9.5-255 combo.
from was 225 but on 8 which was perfectly fine.

Re: 225/255 on 8.5/9.5J (18 inch wheels )

Yup I was on this exact combo on my Proggresiv ME rims. Sorry no pics as I sold my car recently.
Looks : it does look a bit stretched and I personnally didnt like the look. But I know some ppl like the stretched look.
Performance: day to day driving , i did not encounter any issues.
hope this helps.

i'm on 236/265 its working great on 8.5J/9.5J. but i'm on 19". I heard there aren't much different between 225/255 vs 235/265, only the price and demand of the tires. for 18" i'm not sure. but for 19" 235/265 its easily available than 225/255 R19. for day to day driving, go which ever makes for sense to your pocket lo. unless u die want RTF, conti or PS3. than ai heung siew tui ai cheap siew lo.

ABD,

do you a favour. i just came back from pml kampong arang and there is a ppsl with many used bimmer. many to find 1 e92 with 18" prog me with GY F1 225/255 tyres

abit stretch huh ... can feel there is a 'gap' between the rim edge with the tyres

Re: 225/255 on 8.5/9.5J (18 inch wheels )

i believe its the design and shape of the tyres. i am not on progressive ME's but the look is even more stretched.

Re: 225/255 on 8.5/9.5J (18 inch wheels )

yes, highly dependent on tyre brand. i was told GY F1 is abit stretchable :D
bridgestone totally cannot stretch ... kekeke

Thats nice! tight like a sports bra. With the european financial crisis looming in the air, my next tyre change will be 18 not 19. I think PS2 pr PS3 will also fit very well, or stretch well I mean.

i must say the F1 assym tyre wall is quite rounded. looks good esp if u want that undersized tyre on larger rim stretched look.

Re: 225/255 on 8.5/9.5J (18 inch wheels )

a bit stretched is not all bad..
it makes the tires less flexed in cornering. I prefer a bit stretched anytime over squashed in.....

Re: 225/255 on 8.5/9.5J (18 inch wheels )

so, what is the disadvantage of abit stretch

1. rim is not protected ?
2. tyre is stretch which may cause braking efficiency ?
3. ride comfort ?

is this considered too stretched

Advantage

1. Less tyre rubs when on aggressive rim offsets

realoem

RealOEM link has the factory default tires size as follow: 18x8.5 => 245/40, 18x9.5 => 265/40.
