3.0L or M3 engine?

Hi there...

Sorry if i sounded offensive but i am really interested to know what kind of person u r here...

Ur first posting was about u being a 20 years old and prolly the youngest here and ur recent acquisition of a new 320i. U also asked the opinion of forummers here if a airbox and exhaust will void warranty.

4 hours later u r asking what is a good supercharger for your car ??? Why did u bothered about warranty then ?

7 days later u asked if a 3L engine block is better or a M3 block ???

My question to u is... if u had wanted a faster car, why didn't u buy a faster car ? Cos it make more sense that day and the additional money can be paid off thru installment from the new purchase.

Also, if u were to do read up on the various forum, esp in the US, u will know that a lot of things needs to be replaced for the M3 block to go in, not to mention that it's highly illegal and jailable if caught.

We might be fanatics here but most go for asethetic rather than those hardcore modder where we dump SC or 3L block in the car...

Last but not least, like u signature said...... Even if the car is fast, What bout the Driver ?

hey guys.. just wondering any of you did an engine swapto the 3L or the m3 engine?... if so.. can u let me know how it feels?... as in the ride?...

Even if someone has 'done' it, u can't seriously expect that person to openly give feedback here bro. It is like shooting oneself in the foot. Remember, it is illegal. :naughty:

Piggy: Bro I think he's really a car enthusiast lah and would just like to find out more about modding bimmers (at least I think). Just like me loh always dreaming about BBKs and Superchargers or N.A. max tune kekeke!

Shaaz: What both Piggy and T6 said are correct, anyway do come for meetups, know more dudes and dudettes and who knows maybe there is someone in here who will be able to help you out in verbal advice and perhaps a taxi ride too!

Cheers
Barry

it's definitely doable, but remember you need to change tranny and ECU too. not to mention prop shaft, rear diff, drive shaft, brakes, and suspension. even dash board.

Mod funds!!! It's all about mod funds!!!!!

The sky's the limit if U have unlimited mod funds!!!

Shaaz, dun keep asking wat U we think about this & about that.....when U're worried about PML's warranty!! :whattheh:

Give us a budget on wat U intend or want to do....den we can recommend accordingly...

No point when it's gonna be S$10k~S$20k for engine mods den U say I only have budget of S$1k to mod!!

I'm not being nasty, but this is the fact!! :uhhh:

Shaaz, I have mentioned this before too that you should spend more time exploring the limits of your car. The 320i is a good car to start with. I believe being 20yrs old, the most driving experience you would have had is 3 years, no offence.....

Try the modding a little later and it will probably be safer and cheaper (less accidents, fines, wrong mods....)

The forum is a good place to chat but even so members can only go so far....

hello guys... firstly.. chill out.. i was just wanted to know if anyone in the forum has actually done this b4 since i've heard bout the posibble change.

yea.. i ask quite abit .. the only reason i joned the forum rite??.

if i wanted to do something.. not to sound a real dick, but i'd do it. To do a mod i mean, i'm not being nasty too.. i have to outmost respect for everyone of you guys here.. i listen ...

Trust me.. if i really din want any of your opinion .. i wldn't have joined the forum in the first place.

If i intend to go ahead with watever i wanna do with the car, it's not that i'm worried bout the PML warranty.. Don't get me wrong here..

Last but not least... yeea i'm 20.. young.. heh..

I'm just one of those that are very "ON" bout this kinda things.. no harm done yea?...

and yea.. i know what my sig means.. and i keep to that. Sorry if all u big bro's got a real misconception of wat i was trying to put forth.

and yea.. i will come for the next meetup, buy u guys ice lemon tea frm macs yea?.

yeah loh. shaaz, if you really put in the S54, it'll be a real monster. cost wise to do a proper engine, electricals, drivetrain conversion, including widened rear track with m3 rims and widened fenders, will be in the region of 40-45k.

so thats m3 performance for 330i money. and 4 door practicality. only catch is that you cannot lump the 45k mod into your car loan. better start saving now!!!!

Thanks for the replies guys.. yea.. anyways.. like i sed just wondering.. cause the guy at juzz for cars was letting me know all this.. like it costs 14K to do a swap frm the 2.2 to the 3L.

He did say if u think that's not enough.. he can bring in a M3 engine in.. so i was just wondering.. that's all...

14k is alot of money.. so i wanted to ask around... thanks racebred for the down lo for everything .. as in the costs and all..

3.0L conversion is easier, but you gotta lay in $3-6k more for a 330i torque converter. otherwise your stock 320i one will chui immediately. what about your brakes?

More accurate cost estimates on the 320 to 330 conversion are possible since they have been carried out before locally.

An M3 engine swap near certainly has not been carried out locally and even if it has, has not been carried out enough times, or by someone who is really willing to share, such that there is enough info on it. If you are going M3.. figure out all the processes and time line, part and labour costs, add it all up for total time and total amount of money required, and then ADD another 50% to both. Pioneering efforts are inherently tremendously resource consuming.

Where are you going to use all your new found power? Surely not on the streets - no space, much risk. If your answer is track, then you are better of learning to track the relatively stock car you have, and at least reaching a relatively ok-good level of skill and confidence (quantified in laptimes) before you jump into all this expensive power. Doing things in that order makes sure that better use is made of the car as a whole. Jumping straight to power tempts one into lazy uncommited driving without even knowing it. no point being part of the huge straightline mama army.

Shaaz,

sorry if i seemed too harsh cos I felt the wrong vibe. If your are keen on a discussion then the forum is the place to be. I was trying to bring you down a bit cos I personally have gone down this road.... Lots of spending (after pass, got car, mod mod and more mods) 10 yrs later, what do I have to show? Lots of money thrown down the drain and not too much left in the bank. Cars are a depreciating asset in Singapore (unless you can get your hands on a 1 of a kind limited edition road monster) .

Car dealers never offer extra for engine goodies but for asthetics they up the price a bit ... so there you go.

Like what I side before, run in your car, test the limits. The std package is quite good just out of the box (I am driving the same car too)

Keep an ear and eye for the mods and thereafter with greater experience... the sky's the limit....

See you soon. :wavey:

For the 330i torque converter, i think it's 1.8 k.. thats wat he told me. the brakes change to slotted disc.. that was his reccomendations.

Thanks shaun for ur insights. :)

If t\im not wrong.. the 2.2 L and 3L block look the same right.. till u take the engine out?..

Thanks Racebred for ur insights too!.

Yep v similar, can't tell the diff...

all else being equal, changing to slotted discs actually REDUCES your braking torque. thats because the friction surface area has been lessened. unless you are repeatedly stomping on your brakes, you do not need outgassing slots for street driving. but of course this reduction of braking power is a rather small percentage.

so it's rather ironic that a workshop advises you to reduce braking power after increasing engine power. what you may want to do is to change to better gripping pads instead.

really huh??.. well.. thats better huh.. the guy now i think is overseas.. so can't get a hold of him to talk bout all this, BUT thanks for all the advise yea?... many many thnks bro.....
