hmmm.. just wondering, the dealer told you it just got upgraded to a SMGII, not too well versed in this but i thought that the non-m could never have SMG II on thier car, E36 M had the SMGI, E46 M is SMG II and the current E60 M5 and M6 is the SMGIII. Yours is a SSG if im not wrong.... anyways.. i do hope others can chip in and actually explain abt a SMG II being fitted onto the 325 cab, the dealer might just be pulling a fast one on u .

hehe, l test drove the car just now alr....it has a 6speed manual , auto l din notice..but l guess shd be 5 speed lo..as wad m3magic said...
HITMEE: hehe...tot tat 520 can wait lo......shd prob drive a cab when lm young and can afford..
Im just worried l cant drive it for the next 6 or 7 yrs...sigh......when will l kick off this stupid habit of mine?????

Errr .... I am talking 11 shift PROGRAMS (A1-A5, S1-S6), not how many gears .... but regardless, if you enjoy the drive, than go for it. Realse, with the new e92 coming into the market, I think the e46 will take a big hit ...

SMG I does have 5 speed and 6 speed. 6 speed SMG car comes out around 04 and earlier batches will have 5 speed but they are not SMG II. SMG II is only found in M3 for the E46 stable.
I doubt PML does the conversion cos I did approach them and they will not do it for me, citing that the EGS, Gearbox and prop shaft needs to be replaced. Technically, it is definitely possible. A quick check with PML can solve the mystery as they keep all records of job done.
And if it's true they did it, I would be interested also
