335 Hardtop Open for booking

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

opening the hardtop can defnitely turn more heads than the soft top.

to me, hardtop over softtop anytime

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

I dunno man... in a day, (typical hrs spent driving) vs (no. of secs opening/closing the metal roof).

Tough choice... :whattheh:

Mystic: Hhm, good point you brought up.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Soft tops have a certain charm that hard tops can't radiate... they're too "clinical," too efficient. Afterall, convertibles are meant to be a lifestyle kind of car.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Hard top feels more dramatic when opening and closing
Softop is pretty straight forward

Mystic
That is because MX-5 is a roadster whereas the E92 is a 2+2 so bigger canopy is needed, hence substantial increase in weight.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

i think the side view of the hard top CC is too messy...so many slash lines after the c pillar to the boot.....soft top for me.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Jack

agree that MX5 kechil....but a 200 kgs increases .....hmmm

I am about to book the cab....but having driven the coupe and had so much fun during the test drive (cannot print here lah) clearly etched on my mind ....am afraid the weight increase wud blunt the performance. Altho 6 secs is faster than the 630...if published figure is true

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Then the 335 coupe lor, save the 30k and mod up the car with big wheels , swee2x

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

15K refundable?? then doesnt that defeat the purpose of a deposit..? anyway what are they gonna do if majority of the people put down the money and then ask for it back...i dont understand this one..

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

a se told me that they believe they can sell the car readily if a customer cancels his order and that they want to try to have about 30 owners receiving their cars during the launch or something along those lines. also, she said that the price differential to the coupe is about 15k. but that was 2 weeks ago.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

How much is the parallel importer selling this one, anyone knows?

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Consumer psychology would suggest that if one places a deposit of a meaningful sum, one is seriously intent on the purchase and will not cancel it whimsically. Therefore cancellations should be minimal...

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

I share the same views as tototseow. The car is not sleek in my eyes..too many gaps that interrupt the flow. I will stick to the coupe! Plus its either too hot or too wet or too much fumes in Singapore. I drove a convertible when I was living in US, just not something I would do in Singapore.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Wow... "WINDING ROAD’s inside sources confirm that BMW’s M Group is considering retaining a soft top design for the forthcoming M3 convertible, which would eschew the E92 platform’s latest folding hard top design on the 335i and 330i convertibles." :|

PS: Though the 1st pic of the pshopped hood looks kinda funnie... sorta like a wayward Aladdin's carpet! *LOL*

Comparing the stats on both the coupe and coupe/cabrio brochures, the extra 200kg only increases the 0-100km/h timing by 0.3 sec!

So on paper... 5.5 sec (coupe) vs 5.8 sec (coupe/cabrio).

I think its because of the high torque and unique low-rpm delivery of this new bimmer turbo engine, overcomes the potential extra weight penalty. :)

But I do wonder about the lesser-engined models..? :juggle:

based on the 0 to 100kmh timing of 5.5secs and 5.8 secs (coupe/cab), these are for autobox right? what if it is manual or smg? shave off another 0.5secs??

I think these are for the autobox, which is touted to be pretty quick to begin with. Unlikely to have alot of difference between the boxes, other than SMG?

Should have a greater difference for the lesser-engined models.

Re: 335 Hardtop Open for booking

Given the SMG is a "rather old" technology, I think going fwd BMW wont be using this gearbox on non-M cars anymore. The auto gb with paddleshifts as seen on the 335 is far better than SMG in my opinon. Of course the same can't be said bout SMG II and SMG III which are exclusive to M-cars.

I stand to be corrected and we shall see in future.
