Hi Guys.
I noticed something on my ride and I am not sure whether should I be worried about.

1. every morning my car produce a whining noise during drive off and usually in lower gear only but once the oil is heated up the whining noise will be gone.
And it really sound like a lorry on cold start with the tick tick noise but only on cold start.

2. I always notice that the air con discharge water has oil around with it when I see them on floor. (not sure if there's already oil on the floor where I park, will monitor this when I park elsewhere.)

3. does your belt tensioner shake a lot? mine shake a lot during idling but it is still within the tolerate range I suppose.

Please enlighten me.
Thanks.

Hello Gix

Just sharing from an amateur and fellow car-owner (marque-agnostic) perspective:
  1. Is this like the diesel clatter sound? This seems to be a common occurrence for the turbo-charged N20 engines.
  2. That looks like a coolant leak. Best to send to a workshop to get it checked out soonest possible.
  3. Tensioner - as the name suggests - is not intended to rattle and shake. Since you are already going to workshop for the potential coolant leak, might as well get everything (including VANOS) checked out.
Hope that helps.

Can see it rocking back and forth. Not sure if that's normal or how it should be as I do not have a similar engine.

This is still not as bad as what this guy faced:

Best to send it in for a check regardless. Better safe than sorry - and discovering it sooner rather than later could result in less cash burnt.

Air con water like clear to me.
but there some light brown oil stain on the bowl....is that transmission oil?

Tick Tick sound like a diesel engine is normal due to direct injection. it vibrate a lot maybe is due to the engine mounting. Best is to send to a BMW specialist workshop to check.

Just a update.
Got the car checked in couple of workshop. and non of them tell me the main issue. Which I suspect the transmission oil might be slightly low and leaking.

so I go ahead and change the transmission oil and replace all the filter and gasket.

True enough the whining sound is gone.

Hi bros, i intend to get a 2nd hand f10 520i oct 2012. Car engine switched on for 10mins and later i open bonnet, saw many water droplets formed on a tube. Car dealer said its aircon tube and its normal. Is that normal?

Why not ask the dealer if you can send it to a workshop that you trust for a check. You can also request to send it to one of our BMW Specialist workshops listed in the forum. Costs should be borne by you.

If you touched the tube it would have felt cold. So it would have been condensation on aircon tube.
