523i or 525i or 530i which one to choose?

Re: 523i or 525i or 530i which one to choose?

Hi guys,

Are you all talking about new from PML or used?
PML does not sell 523 anymore, only 520, 525 & 530.
Specs for 520 and 525 currently is lower than 523 early 08, can check it out at PML website.
I suppose 525 going for about $180k range while 530is about $240k.

As to your comparison between 523 and 525;
- the gearing ratio is slightly lower for 525 while 523 and 530 share the same set of ratio, coupled to its higher power the 525 is able to achieve a very much better 0-100 time compared to 523.
- 523 and 530 is more frugal due to their gearing

City driving with 523 is not that sluggish as claimed by others.
Sluggish or not is also subjective as to what kind of performance we are used to.

In my opinion, 530 is the one to go for if budget allows. Power is never sufficient ....

Thanks.

any reason why PML no longer sells 523 ?

Am thinking about getting a second hand, perhaps about 2 years old.....any advice ? or is a new better value given the current COE levels ?

Suppose they do not need to sell detuned 525 anymore as they have 520 to challenge E200 in the mkt.
Specs of used 523 varies, the highest specced are around end 07 and early 08 with door closing aid etc.
And there are also the highline vs normal version being sold in the whole of 07.

My idea would be to get the (1-2yr) 523 highline (with active steering & sat nav) if there's any being sold out there and chip up the car later on should you feel that the power is insufficient.

Its true that PIs are bringing in brand new 525 at very good price as what was mentioned in this thread, friend of mine bought one.

Re: 523i or 525i or 530i which one to choose?

well well well...PML say "after much survey, many customers think its not necessary for 523 base, as new 520 is just as torquey n 525 218bhp will be marketable"

i got mine 525 last Dec/08
had tested jan/07 523 (177bhp), n also 523xi (190bhp ver)
the ride will simply transform u into a monster rite away.

point is:
1. sit in a beemer, u wont want to get out! :yummie:
2. sit in a Merc ... u will think of Tiananman
3. u r wannabe or yuppie or kinkie ??? :nehnehhh: then go for 325 or 335 (fast n furious)

i m enjoying my ride every single day...0-100 7.7s
not redlining yet...but will be pushing it 1 day in NS Hwy soon..

PML took away the certain features to reduce price of former 523 at $17xk with good trade-in of yr used car...
no roller blind
no soft closing door
no adaptor headlight
no comfort start etc...
but hey! 218horses to fool ard with...

There is no external badge to indicate the highline version except for the type 245 rims.
Spec wise, its addition of Active Steering, Sat Nav, Sports Steering Wheel etc.

JLMC, what's comfort start? You mean the 'start' engine button and your 525 doesn't have it?

I do believe in the learning ECU. My car drives so much different now compared to when I first got it. But nowadays I almost never drive on D mode, which is sluggish and unresponsive. If I were to do it again, definitely go for 530i, no actually 535i.
Hi Titanic,

Care to elaborate on how you induce the ECU to deliver optimal performance as suppose to when you first got it?

i mean keyless start when u r near the car.., door unlock n start by itself (by program)

:furious:

Is there really a system in BMW whereby door unlocks by itself and engine starts by itself when driver near?
That's scary, isn't it?

The most i heard / saw is the Comfort Access whereby door unlocks when driver touch handle and key is not required to be inserted but just a press on the START button with key on driver will get the engine alive.

Re: 523i or 525i or 530i which one to choose?

well, i heard new 5 series will come in in same 335 twin turbo (3.0) engine ...what about waiting? Again, price difference might not be justifiable .......

Ah Beng,

Shd compare to 335 sedan which is $210k and not $235k.
