Re: 525i vs 520i
Dude,
I agree that an in-line 6 cylinder is minimum to pull the 5 series (e60) body. I know it comes down to $ and c. But now given that the new 520i is the 4pot engine carry over from the 3 series, I am not so sure u may like it. Spend the extra and get the 525i. Otherwise u will regret when u wanna sell and some 2nd hand dealers will smirk at the model and give u a low-ball quote saying its a 4pot and no value etc...
If the original 2.2litre in-line 6cylinder 520i was still being offered,- I would say - save your money and buy the 520i inline6. Its really too bad that BMW discontinued that 2.2litre Inline6. I personally thought that was really the baseline engine to pull the e60 respectably.
Otherwise, if u are not fussy, I am sure there are plenty of good condition well taken care of 6cylinder 520i out there for sale. The money u saved, you can spend on a sprint booster, add on a K&N filter and do up a nice ipod adaptor to your car or even add on a m5 body kit.
Of course, I wanna add this is my humble opinion only. 5 yrs ago, my sis and i bought e46 together. Mine was just the entry level 4pot 318i and hers was a inline6 320i. Guess what - although there's a 'creamy feel' from pedal to foot, over time, you dont really feel that any more.
My sis paid more vs me. when we traded in for new car, I move to the e60 520i (the 6cylinder 2.2litre) , my sis moved to a benz..., the dealer din really significantly much more than my 318.
So just a food for thought.
Ultimately - its yr call. Have fun
