Adaptive transmission reset sequence

Thought you guys might find this useful. It is a soft reset sequence mainly used when your AT starts getting sluggish. It seems to reset more than just the transmission but I have no confirmation of that. This is from bimmerfest

Keyless sequence

1. Push start button without pressing on brake. (do not start car)
2. Press acc pedal all the way down for 5 sec
3. Turn off car
4. Take foot off of accelerator pedal.
5. Wait 2 min
6. Start car

With key

1. Put key in the ignition
2. Click on the Start button without having your foot on the accelerator. At this point the lights on the dash will all light up.
3. Push the accelerator to the floor and hold it for about 30 seconds. For me at about 20 seconds I heard a very faint sound. This is the reset sound. Don't worry if you don't hear it. Just keep your foot on the pedal for about 30 seconds.
4. Start car

Re: Adaptive transmission reset sequence

It is suppose to reset the throttle pedal adaptation...not a permanent fix for the transmission lag/jerk/delay etc. Problem will be back few days after reset.

Re: Adaptive transmission reset sequence

hi friends,

i just got my e60 from dealer 2 months back.

All gear shifting are ok except occasionally from 1 to 2 (i believe), there is a jerking effect- kinda like the gear is hesitant to upshift....but like i said, its only occasional. Not sure if it is a big concern , or some kind of early warning signs of bigger things to happen...

Actually in some cases can be quite dangerous- like when trying to overtake, imagine the gear does'nt shift!

My ride happened to be covered under LTM Warranty as a package deal from the dealer, i brought it to LTM, they said they did some programming...but some far although the frequency seemed lesser , there were still a few instances..

Any thoughts?

Re: Adaptive transmission reset sequence

I had the same problem with my new 528i (2.0l turbo) recently about 2 months back. The car was only about 5 or 6 months old when this problem happened. With mine, it was jerking really bad from 3rd shifting down to 2nd & then to 1st. It was also happening when shifting up from 2nd to 3rd.

I sent it back to PML to check. 1st they re-programmed the gear box. Still had the problem. Then they did the Gear box adaptation. It was much netter, but still had the jerking. They finally changed the Mechatronic Box, whatever that is, and now it's okay, although sometimes it jerks, but I'm not sure whether it's the gear box or just the engine braking as it's a 4 cylinder engine.
