Advice Needed on Tyres

Goodyear gets better value and performance than PS1

I was crazy over tires and used the Pilot Sports 225/45/17 before at about S$270 per piece, tried many others and settled for the Goodyear F1 GSD3.
Refer to the Road Test 2004 in the Autocar magazine Asean Singapore Dec 2004 issue and USA's website www.Tirerack.com and do a comparison and review from many users. You will find Goodyear F1 makes a better performance in the wet than PS and S03 although they are close and about there. It is usually in the wet that really is the most dangerous and Goodyear F1 performed better in wet and noise too as well as cost cheaper. I think will not go back to PS and will make more frequent yearly changes with a cheaper and better tire. My thoughts and advise. Remeber GSD2 is different than the latest F1 GSD3. Please read the Dec 2004 Autocar mag.

What is the price difference between PS1 and F1 GSD3 ?

I have seen the Autocar magazine Asean Dec 04 issue. However, the dry performance of the F1 GSD3 is not so good :ehhh:

If you notice the test is conducted by Good Years

Cheer !

I am also very happy with my Goodyear F1 GSD3 tyres. Recently, I was travelling on the North South on a rather wet day and found the traction provided by these tyres to be very good.

In my view, they are very good value for money and unless you track your car a lot or need to extra dry performance provided by Michelin PS2 or Bridgestone SO3, then you can go for the Goodyears.

how abt the noise level of the GSD3??

You asked Price I got GY F1 vs PS1

I recall being quoted S$230 for the latest Goodyear F1 GSD3 - over the previous GSD2 at S$195 for 225/45/17. The PS1 I was quoted at S$270 and I think the new PS2 maybe more. I thus found the F1 better value vor money and performance in wet and lower noise and plan to used the save money to change a little more frequently - like once a year to keep noise down.
That what I hope to share my views with all. Tried the Yokos ES100 - noisy after 7000km. Really could not bear it.

Asked the guy @ the tyre shop and he said Michelin Preceda and PS1 are both made in Thailand. ( I dunno but does it really matter where the tyre is made? All lubber right? )
The dunlop 9000s that i bought made in japan. But yea...nice n quiet now.heh..previous tyres a little bald so noisy.

$195 considered costly fer 17 inch?

I don't know about Thailand, but they do manufacture in Germany, Spain and France. My Front tyres are from Germany and my wider 245 's rear from Spain.
Cheers :)

Hi, Snowman

Me on F1 17" rubbers, installed the tire and now used for 8k km. Can feel than the wet performance is better than my expectation as it meets my habit of aggresive turning.

Nosie level is considerably low for V-groove pattern much quieter than my previous rubber of same threat pattern

Consider the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 from Germany 225/45/17 at S$210+ per tyre... better wet grip than PS2 and CSC - dry we all know... wet best be more careful so better go for those with better wet performance as we sometimes forget wet grip and aqua planning occurs at dry speeds

bru... i strongly recommend goodyear rev spec... should be in the range of $200 or less... really think it's value for money

Continental Tyres

I am having the following for immediate sale.

2 units stock Continental 225/40/17
1 unit stock Continental 245/45/17
It is from my 5 months old 318i Sports Edition.

Tyre still on my car, so you can try it (to assure you that they are road-worthy). Perfect condition.

Reason: I punctured one tyre, and changed it to Continental Contact Sport II.
Now I want to change all the other three to look the same.

Agreed. I have the German F1 GS-D3 on both my rides... excellent grip as I had a few e-brake encounters which they gave me perfect control and response. Gave me a lot of confidence on dry and wet roads and round corners. The best part is they r quiet and comfortable too. My friend's 5 had also been enhanced with these tyres.

I got mine from Poh Heng at around $180/pc (cannot remember exact, but around there).

I would recommend these tyres to anyone give its performance, comfort, quietness and value for $$$ (esp when the diff is X 4).
