Hey guys,

Hope you can advise or comment on the following:

When I first turned on aircon, everything was fine. Few minutes into my drive, the aircon vent which blows directly onto my left leg started to blow HOT air!! :ehhh: Anyone experience the same? Is it normal? Thinking of bringing to PML but wld like to hear some views first.

My ride is a 2-mths old 318 sports ed. :verysad:

thanks in advance!!

David

david,

i got the same problem on my car also, i was told by PML our car comes fitted with heater system :screwedu: , as long as our air-con temp settting > 22 degree C it will turn on the heater to blow hot air at the foot well area.

change your air-con setting < 22 degree you should be fine. i am running on 21 degree after the advice by PML, after that none of this problem again.

:)

Cool! Thanks for the advice!

Now got to wear sweater during early mornings and late at night as I super kia gua (scared cold)

well if you kia gua, you can turn off your air-con compressor by pressing the * once to turn off and again of turn on.

cheers

Interesting.... 21 degrees is quite cold, I think?

I set mine at 23 and it still gets quite cold esp in the evenings.

Cheers,
Alvin.

Will the compressor turn off and on automatically? i tried monitoring the compressor, but seems like its always engaged.. hear no tiak sound leh.. hehehe..

I lagi guniang. I set mine at 24 degrees and still cold enuff for me :)

Depends on the time of the day. I get the hot effect too btu I don't pay alot of attention to it. My old 325 in Canada use to have the same behaviour too.

The only way to solve this is set the temp at 24 degrees, deactivate the auto aircon function and press the middle air distribution button.

But I think this is damn stupid as it defeats the purpose of having an auto function.

Haha... I used to have it at 24 until I grew a "spare tyre" and additional cooling was required! :errr:

The E46 is supposed to have some with a variable charge compressor for the air con system. The impetus was to improve drivability as the compressor does not cut in and out like a normal car.

Dunno how true is this....

Hmm... mine is set at 19C! :)

Only sometimes i do get cold and push it to 24-26, then hot air comes in from the footwell! :)

I have mine at 19 also. When I set it to 21 previously, the compressor cuts off at certain time and I get hot air. Then it takes several minutes to cut in again, by which time it is too stuffy. At 19, I think the compressor is always engaged.

should be fine. BMW emphasis on cold head, warm feet. Therefore the air from the footwell should be warm, not hot! If it is really hot, have the heater valve checked. I could be chocked.

there is nothing wrong with the car... the air coming out from the footwell is usually warm after a while if the temp is set more than 22 degrees or so..

Actually when u drive in the cold country, u will appreciate this, the feet will get warmed up nicely when u r on long journey. u realised that the cold feet can get u have a numb feeling after a long drive...

our aircon compressor will still cuts in and out but u will not hear it like the jap car. in fact, if u do hear it, the magnetic clutch is going off liao..

also, the aircon cut in and out less often cos often as they mix the hot air from the radiator to attain the climatic control better, hence u get a more even temp throughout, rather than freezing cold, then warm up before the compressor cuts in again...

Re: Aircon problem - Hot air!!

I had similar problem in BMW320i,E46,2004 last week. Cold air on the drivers and passenger side air vent and hot air on the floor air vent.
The aircon expert has diagnosed the problem and the problem has solved after replacing the heater valve.
Heater valve allows hot water circulation only when the heater is on. This valve was malfunctioning therefore allowing hot water to circulate. Coted about R 2500 (USD 400)

Re: Aircon problem - Hot air!!

I am driving BMW 523i F10, 2010. I got this hot air problem from day 1. The air-con blows out hot air from main air-con vents for few seconds upon start up. I went to Performance workshop and they claimed 'it is a characteristic of the car'. Is this true? But after reading rajeshpai2004 comments, I seemed to have found the solution.
