Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

Re: Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

Surprised you had problems with the Exige, Sean. I sat in my friend's old Elise (the Rover engine one) and everything felt perfect. The seats, the driving position.. everything.

Didn't put a helmet on though...

Re: Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

Everything including head room in those cars was great, except for the pedals and the non-adjustable steering column. It wasn't a case of too little headroom forcing me to sit low in the seat and screw up the lower portion. There are other cars I've managed to squirm around in to scrape by ok with keeping proper controls, but with this one there was just no way. The interference was far too great. I can show you next time.

But I've also been told there are differences across the generations in terms of pedal placement, and not sure what else. Don't know exactly which gen or models. So maybe that's the reason for the difference in our experiences.

GTR35 on track

Car is very fast, effortless pulling power, will outgun anything else out there. Its like bringing a shotgun to hunt while everyone else is on a .22

The traction control and dynamics of the car feels at large. Body weight shifts are obvious and you cannot miss it.

Elise/Exige

Too slow on the straights. I can only hit 180km on Sepang back straight while 220s were easy in the GTR. Shaun can go calculate the diff in lap-times using that computer brain of his.
Elise not just made for the average size. Obviously when Shaun was in my car with me. It was a pretty funny side. It looked like vegan version of a dumpling and a full kong bar pau :)

Pedal placements are only decent for up to date Porsches. Post 996 cars had nice placement in terms of pedals but seating position relative to pedals still created a unique position while driving.

Shaun should go see a plastic surgeon, get his legs reconfigured or something.

By the way, the car is built like the freakin' Yamamoto.

Wasn't a Yamamoto-class carrier sunk by one lone sub - USS Archerfish in WW2 near Tokyo Bay??

According to Wikipedia,

Yamato (大和), named after the ancient Japanese Yamato Province, was a battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was lead ship of her class. She and her sister Musashi were the largest, heaviest, and most powerful battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load, and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 inch) main guns.
The ship held special significance for the Empire of Japan as a symbol of the nation's naval power ('Yamato' was sometimes used to refer to Japan itself), and its sinking by US aircraft in the final days of the war during the suicide Operation Ten-Go is sometimes considered symbolic of Japan's defeat itself.

:)

The words "large, heavy, and powerful" do resonate with the GTR as well

Re: Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

this is the yamato la
SpaceBattleshipYamato.jpg

in the year 2199, an alien race known as the "Gamilas" ("Gamilons" in the English dub) are raining radioactive bombs on Earth, rendering the planet's surface dead and uninhabitable. Humanity lives in refuges built deep underground, but the radioactivity is slowly infiltrating the underground cities too. Earth's space fleet is hopelessly outclassed by the Gamilas and all seems lost until a mysterious space probe is retrieved on Mars. Blueprints for a faster-than-light engine are discovered, and a message from Queen Starsha of the planet Iscandar in the Large Magellanic Cloud says that she has a device, the Cosmo-Cleaner D (Cosmo DNA), which can cleanse Earth of its radiation damage.
The inhabitants of Earth secretly convert the ruin of the Japanese battleship Yamato into a massive spaceship, the Space Battleship Yamato of the title. Using Starsha's blueprints, they equip their new ship with a warp drive and a new, incredibly powerful weapon called the "wave motion gun" that fires out the bow. In the English dub, the ship is still the historical Yamato and referred to as such, but is renamed the Argo (after the ship of Jason and the Argonauts) once rebuilt. A tiny but intrepid crew of 114 leaves in the Yamato to go to the Large Magellanic Cloud and retrieve the mysterious device, if it exists. Along the way they discover the plans of their blue-skinned adversaries: the planet Gamilas, sister planet to Iscandar, is dying; and its leader, Lord Desslar ("Desslok" in the English dub), is trying to irradiate Earth enough for his people to move there, at the expense of the "barbarians" he considers humanity to be.

The DSG on the GTR isn't like the DSG on the GTI toto. I've driven both. In R mode, the shifts on the GTR are faster and more mechanical and there's a discernable thunk when the gear changes in some gears, because of the gearing and the way the assembly works. If that's your only disagreement in the car, get some seat time to see the difference. But there's nothing I can do about the badge.

Too true. Wonder if the porky-techs came up with something akin to Godzilla - would the legions of GTR despisers like it... hmm!

DoggieHowser;322448 said:
As for how it performs..

The GTR pulls very effortly (you mean effortlessly), and the DSG minimizes power losses between shifts. That IMHO is why it seems to win in many of the shootouts. Out of every corner... just prod the gas pedal and it goes like mad. No lag, no delays. Just boom. I've had to learn to feather my pedal control a lot more in the GTR than I did in the Evo.

Sorry bro - had to fix that...

Correction Melvin!!

Should be +400...

That jerkhead got a lot of facts wrong in the article. If you look at it carefully, he appears to be thrilled by the drive - but slates it in the end. He has slated every Japanese car he has laid his hands on in the past... so there is history at work here.

Walter Rorhl likes suspension travel. His non-racing life was spent tuning long suspension travel stuff to handle well.

Few people despise the GTR, really. It's something I would like, but if I were to buy something like the GTR which the salient points to me are:

1) Very fast
2) automatic / clutchless manual transmission
3) Heavy
4) Huge Torque
5) 2+2 seater

the GTR then competes with the following cars:

1) BMW M3 E92 (glorious high rev engine, Manual trans)
2) Audi RS4 (even heavier, Manual trans)
3) AMG C63 (best engine of all, but auto)
4) Maser GT (beautiful! but nothing else)
5) BMW M6, RS6 (even heavier, auto only)
6) Panamera (light, rest unknown)

And I'm not sure that the GTR can win my heart over the M3, MGT and C63 in that order. I'm considering the MGT because it's a bloody high class seductress which screws my brain and fills me with lust and forget everything else, and when I'm in her arms, I'll not regret it even after few months of being in her. The M3 because, it really don't show its weight and the C63 because I've a soft spot for AMG and fuelled by the hope that AMG MCT will alleviate the suffering from the autobox next year. And all this is fantasy bullshit based on reviews of the C63 and the GTR because I"ve driven neither. The MGT I don't need to drive it, just look at it is enough, that it's on my list got nothing to do with how it drives. It may drive like an S-Class which I expect it to, and I'm still happy because it's like a pink vulva.

Price is `about the same bracket, stretchable' especially if you consider the current known servicing costs of the GTR.

So it's not about despising the GTR.

Of course, all this if I were in the market for a car like the GTR/M3 etc. Which I am not at this time because I'm still in love.

Re: Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

Pink vulva - is desirable eh??

Re: Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

M3 coming with the DSG model soon, innit?

Porsche's PTK is also on the cards. Should finally replace the horrendous tiptronic which SADLY accounts for sooo much of local sales.

Can't stop progress.

yes but not mandatory ler ...

If I buy a race car be sure it got a fast shifter though ....

Casio also got digital watch, easier to read, got light, still got people buy analog watch, but when scuba diving they change to digital. Same for me loh ...

Re: Aiyo... GTR win everything at Evo Magazine...

aiya why r we always arguing which car is better or faster or more suitable?
every car has its purpose....u want 0-30, 0-100, 0-200, 0-15000? with comfort? without comfort? u want back seats? every car has its target audience...
