Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

Clar the grills are a winner. Congrats!

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

Congrats - a winner all round. I just love the way the new side gills look in frozen grey. The titanium exhaust tips look really mean too. Dumb / redundant question, but I take it that there is no dronning (sound) in the cabin?

Clar, pls PM me the price of the Akra exhaust (inclusive of installation etc) - I might take the plunge.

Oh yes, keep us posted on the M6 steering wheel too pls.

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

Thanks, guys! In a haste to post my initial review and rushing for a quick meeting, I forgot to mention something else. Upon collection, Reeve and I were listening intently for any difference in sound. To my surprise, I find that the car now revs more freely and pulls harder as a result. I am pleasantly surprised as I have never cared for more power in this car unlike Reeve. He wanted to wake up all his neighbours and also more power so he could take off for Mars :D The official spec specified a 10 bhp and 17 Nm enhancement, but it sure felt better than that from the way the engine is revving now. That's a bonus to me :)

Some have PM me asking about the pricing. Here goes:
- Akra Evo Exhaust plus installation and LTA certification: $11.5k nett

Side grills
- $166.55 per piece excluding GST
- $132 for spraying of both grills excluding GST
- $66 for installing the grills excluding GST
- Total: $568.277 nett

For those interested in the side grill job, you can save a bundle by re-using your grills. I opted to have a new set in case things don't work out too well. The exhaust pricing is by no means the cheapest around, but I have opted to do it via MA for the same reason why we buy our cars from them.

No drone, bro! Anyway, even if there is any, it won't be able to make its way into the cabin considering how air tight it is :)

time to spray yr nose grille in the same scheme....

Ok, finally had my Akra Evo done for my M5 along with the color coded side grills. I did some recordings of the sound in the cabin, but realized that it doesn't really capture the difference that well. As Reeve mentioned, the sound is quite a lot louder with the windows down and not a whole lot louder with the windows up. However, there is no mistaking that there is something different and special about this exhaust even with the windows up. In enclosed area, it's noticeably louder and nice :) Under hard charging, the sound takes on a harder edge racy tone, which suits the car just fine. I am very happy with the exhaust and the carbon tips are to die for. I have discovered that i could open up the through loading hole in the middle passenger seat. That allow more of the music to filter into the cabin even when the windows are up. As i have always said, i don't expect it to be a whole lot louder considering that the F10 platform is like a nuclear bunker blocking out most of the sound. If it's loud in the cabin, it's gonna be quite uncivilized on the outside. A few quick pics here...

Don't think so. I like the nose as it is :)

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

Very nice Clar. The CF tips are to die for. Is the rear diffuser stock?

Unlikely to fit regular F10s I think.

even it fits , i dont think it suitable for 523i engine. It might cause the engine to lose power.

Straight sixes i don't think has any chance of fitting. The 550i probably, but that car is rarer than M5s.

i can hear Clar Akra exhaust from my west coast home last friday while he was stucked in west coast highway jam for 1 1/2hrs hahahah jk.

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

As i said in the other thread: "The right side muffler of my new Akra had issue. It was rattling very loudly, but only on cold start in the morning and goes away after warm up. That made it impossible to detect when collecting the car. After they changed the muffler, it seems ok now. Will monitor further."

Still loving the exhaust though :) I am however, not happy with the way Maximus Racing handled the case. Initially, they said they will claim warranty and crap like that and that it's gonna take some time to fix. I won't have any of that and insisted that they replace it with another piece. It was afterall, a defective unit right from the start. I am not gonna wait weeks for any warranty claim for a new installation. Add to that, me getting stucked on west coast highway for 1.5 hours cos they won't drop the car off at my place, they are so not getting my business for the Alcon BBK for my M3. I have been warned abt them. Now i have experienced it first hand. I did not know MA is doing it via Maximus. If i had known, i would have simply gotten the exhaust from another source (1k cheaper) and have it installed at the trusty BVO. How a workshop deals with issues is a measure of their substance. MA has been very professional and helpful this whole time, so credit to them. They really should be careful who they work with, else they risk damaging their own reputation.

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

Thanks for the update and insight into the problems you faced with Max - makes my think twice about installing the Akra now.

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

I did about 1800km on my Akra now, sounds slightly louder than when I first installed. The NS highway run helped a bit. But am still disappointed with the very minimal improvement. Miss the Akra on the M3.

Ya bro! Still MC blue. The Hamann roof spoiler now is MA stock! hehehe..

Re: Akra Evo Exhaust for F10 M5

As with most exhaust systems, it takes some time to really "season" the exhaust. The stock exhaust I had on my S5 V8 ride only "opened up" and started sounding great after 8000km, and several NSH runs where one can really rev the engine all the way. I suspect that even the stock M5 exhaust will "open up" after some NSH drives.
