Another HORROR-workshop find

Re: Another HORROR-workshop find

What about a workshop saw BMW then all mechanics dump their job on hand and attend you? I experience once and i flee.... it's too over to me and make me feel like rabbit staring on carrots.

Re: Another HORROR-workshop find

hi folks, what defines specialist workshop? are their techs trained by the factory? seems this term is used loosely. i've been to so called specialist in aircon, transmission, etc and they seem to know nothing except providing a huge quotation.

Specialist ws means everytime u go, u will see alot of bimmer there.... reason...

cos they are so specialised that the owner have to kip bringing it back...

IMHO, I prefer a reliable ws that knows your car.. meaning u send there once and your problem is rectify...

Re: Another HORROR-workshop find

We all gone through some crappy workshops before. Went to one that specialises in BMW at Bukit Merah lane area. The owner just charged like crazy and had to get him to show me exactly what his workshop did to come up with such a bill. Finally removed few items from list. NEVER again gone back there.

All it takes is one dishonest transaction to spoil their reputation.

Threads like these are good to expose them

The self-declared ones, or even some dealers' own workshops, oft claim themselves to be "specialist" workshops. I met with a few nice bros yesterday, one whom shared with me his experiences at some AD ws for his previous marques (not BMW).

Being AD workshops, one would have expected them to be able to resolve the problems immediately. Unfortunately, one AD workshop actually told him to change out the whole transmission for a simple speed sensor problem (tens of $K vs a few hundred bucks), and another AD ws charged $6000 for a problem that was resolved elsewhere for $200. Again, I stress these are not BMW ADs - one was a competing conti luxury brand (not sure about this now that they detuned to Cat A) that every says is "super reliable" and the other was a mass market Jap brand touted as "never breakdown, low maintenance".

The good specialist workshops will be able to properly assess the car and pinpoint the problems, thereby resolving the issues at minimal cost. Rather than guess the problem, create unnecessary work and downtime to boost their KPIs and profits, as do some others.

Re: Another HORROR-workshop find

Specialist means u just do that make of cars la. U drive a Toyota into a specialist BMW workshop n ask whether they got repair or not n if they say yes then they not specialist. If they say no, they only do bmws. U can curse "sibeh hao lian" n drive off, then drive ur BMW to them another day to service.

No wonder BMW ADs refuse to service my Yam. "Sibeh Hao Lian!".

Re: Another HORROR-workshop find

To those bros who have had bad experience, would like more details on exactly what went wrong and if and how you finally fixed it.

Re: Another HORROR-workshop find

Well, i think this recommendation or sharing of feedback is quite subjective. There are some workshops we never end up having a r/ship with, receive bad perceptions about, or simply we din note get served because they were too busy. So if not taken in context the comments can be harsh bordering on defamatory. Posting them here may impact tne forum at large. I understand the concern of getting chopped... but having the mentality of want cheap want good want fast isnt going to help much.

In the past when i look for a workshop, i wud only go to one recommended if the recommender went wif me to introduce me. This was so that the WS knows how to provide you a better service. If you are going to insist on a workshop or keep singing praises... then i will not follow you. Just my 2 cents worth.

I only go AMK auto point to do my wheel alignment or go Ah lye shop to roll my fenders , knock M fender shapes, etc...

I highly recommend Ah Lye for dent repairs as well. I know him personally, he does a great job!
