Any E90 320i owner tried resetting OBC

I am thinking about changing the micro filter myself since the warning light is up :furious:.

I searched the internet and found the following steps recommended.:errrrrrr:... Any one tried? Like to have some feedback.....

Step 1
Insert key into slot
Step 2
Press start/stop button without depressing clutch/brake and wait for the service reminder to dissapear.
Step 3
Immediately after service reminder goes out, press and hold the odometer reset. After 3 secs a warning triangle will appear, keep the odo. button pressed and after another 2-3 secs the Oil can will appear. I f you hold it too long (10 secs in total) you will overshoot the runway and some German writing will appear giving the software level/ can bus etc. of the car. Go back to the beginning and start again.
Step 4
You are now in the service menu, use the toggle switch on indicator stalk to scroll up/down through the various service items.
Step 5
When you have the item you want to reset showing, press the BC button on end of indicator stalk. Reset should now appear in the display. Press in and hold the BC button for 2-3 secs and a clock will start whirling around and hey presto, its done
Step 6
You can now either scroll up/down to select another item (as in step 4) or you can press the start/stop button to exit.

BINGO!

After several attempts (because timing is very important), I successfully reset the warning for micro filter .....

If it doesn't go smoothly, say you see some strange german word pops up:oooops:, please pull out your car key. No worry, it will be back to normal then try again.... You can reset oil change, brake check, suspension check, etc. etc.......So be careful, you don't want to reset the :shoot:wrong thing.. All those checks on the OBC can be reset.......Good Luck!

This the carbon filter under the bonnet nearest to the windscreen. Google and you'll see Youtube showing how to change it.

If you changed the filter but didn't reset the warning, it'll still bug you all day long:biggun:. If you reset but didn't change the filter, the car thought you oledi change it.:bullshit:

Actually, most overseas owner recommended not to replace so soon. Just take filter out, vacuum, clean the chamber, put filter under hot-sun (UV to recharge the carbon), spray some odorless anti-septic solvent on it (optional) then reinstall.

My ride is only 29,000km after 30 mths,,,,so not dirty leh.....but the silly BOC cho cho me, I cannot tahan:stop!:. Most angmoh owners recommend to change around 50,000 km. BMW just want to make money oli,,,,, so why change so quickly.

Save some $$$$ for my next ride (daihatsu Copen, ha ha)

Re: Any E90 320i owner tried resetting OBC

Mine was totally chocked up after 18k km. Maybe too much city driving. Anyway, $30-70 for fresher cabin air, worth it la.

Re: Any E90 320i owner tried resetting OBC

One more thing bro, the 50,000km recommendEd by Ang mo may not apply here - different air quality between diff countries...

I'm really surprised that this forum nobody talks about resetting OBC self help whereas the Angmoh BMW forum has been recommending it since E46 model. May be the sponsors (workshops) try to avoid lor! Otherwise how to charge you $80/- for resetting hee hee.

Now you know a way, so future oil change, micro filter change, etc., you can reset it yourself.

As for quality of air, Singapore quite good. I just removed, vacuum, clean the chamber, sanitized, put filter under sun to recharge carbon particle then reintall. Smells good.......

To be fair, the $80 charge was for 'computer diagnostic', perhaps it does more than resetting the OBC (although the whole intention was to reset the OBC).

My ride now passing 57,000 km and curiously, to date, no OBC warning for change of microfilter........but must say that at every service, I ask NOT TO change...prob, PML resets for me??

Re: Any E90 320i owner tried resetting OBC

I could be wrong about it but PML charged my fahter in law the last time they reset the microfilther warning without changing the filther itself.
