Anyone used DPS voltage stablizer

Oh seem like no one here tried before????

Using the Pivot one. Not so much of power increase but using it to stablise the power for my ICE.

Purely on that purpose...it works very well. I am able to maintain a constant 12v above (usually its around 13.8v).

increase bhp and improved comsumation...no idea. Can't feel and can't see it.

Same finding on my previous ride that I transfer the unit over from.

Oh i guess i have to try out the thing to give the field report. I ever read in somewhere they have this compare among some of the voltage stabilize DPS shows better result. I got to really try one by one to find out twhich is the really suitable one for Bimmer....

cannot say much about the voltage stabiliser but electronically, it has capacitors inside them. From the looks of it each capacitor can only hold about 6800micro farads or so. Mulitplied by the bank of 4 caps, you are looking at 27000 microfarads max. IMO, a stiffening cap at the battery is a much better alternative. Those stiffening caps are at least 500,000 microfarads and will be able to deliver a much greater punch when there is an instaneous current draw.

For standard cars, the instaneous current draw for appliances is rather limited as the time frame that the battery cannot meet up is in the order of a couple of miliseconds. That is why audio amps can use thinner guage wire if augmented with the capacitors. Personnally I find grounding the vehicle properly has a much greater effect. Even that, in the E46 I cannot seem to get the same results as cars with batteries in the front. Perhaps the jap cars that I have fitted them to have much poorer quality ground wires.

Use physics to explain myths behind the new stuff on the market. if physics can't explain, the item is probably going to give questionable results.

Just my 5 cents worth. :)

So are you saying that the e46'es are already well grounded ? No need to ground further...?

Think your explanation makes sense - mebbe you can commercialize your Stiffening Cap idea - I for one would be keen to try!

Aiyah... stiffening caps already on the market, any audio shop can help you. The grounding wires works for Hondas, VW, Nissans and even some Toyotas. The issue is the length and quality of wires and their grounding points. Alot of older cars have the grounding points under the battery tray and that promotes corrosion and hence a poor conductor.

I usually DIY my grounding cables for myself as well as friends. use short short fat fat cables and somemore in pairs. Cost alot less than the other stuff on the market. To make things worse i have enven replaced some of my frens rides who have installed the stuff with this and they claim better starting oomph as the starter just seems to crank better. But really cannot feel the car running better...ie. more HP or torque. Which makes sense as the eletrical system to run the car actually takes ver very little (about 10 amps or so to run fuel pump, ECU and ignition).

The reason why i say the Beemers may not benefit much is because i have tried it on a friend's older BM and his feedback was only so so. Personally my E46 is coming out this weekend and after some fiddling time and getting to know the car better, will try to ground the bugger.

Shaun, if you read this i think you will remember me.... ;)

Anyone used the above before? There was some test done on a 325 before in HK and it had very promising result. There is increase in HP, pick up seem to be alot lighter and fuel consumption was reduced. There are many model tested and only certian model suit Bimmer. On paper always look good so if anyone tried before can share with us....

Man, you should see what Hot4s(not hotstuff!!) did a review on those things.. snake oil! :hmmidont:

Hi Yendor,

You may have been asked about this a million times but I'm hoping you can enlighten me over a few finer points :

1) Does grounding need special wires (like uni-directional wires)? Will bi-directional wires work? Any diff?
2) Do the wires need to route back to the batteryif you have a voltage stabiliser or just the main electrical components linked together to ground will do?
3) Where are the earth points on the E46 FL?

I was also wondering if you have done the grounding on your ride? What have you done and if it's worth doing it?

I know it quite a bit to reply but I hope you can help me decide if it's worth the time.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Caesar

Re: Anyone used DPS voltage stablizer

No I haven't but i am using Z-stab which works as advertised. its not strictly a voltage regulator, see website for details. but I can confirm on my e34 much better idling, smoother engine note, better LET and probably better economy. and is not placebo effect; just disconnect and you can feel the diff straight away. My friend's 05 legacy turbo and 03 galaxy also showed immediate results, in the case of the Ford, at idle the dash and steering don't shake anymore. In the legacy much better ICE response. I am not at all releated to the product, but i support Singaporean inventions, such as z-stab.

Hi Caeser

There is no such thing as unidirection wires. In electrical concepts, a wire is just a pc of metal conducting electricity. I use very thick short wires to ground the car and it does help the starting and smoothness pf the car. As to the exact power gains, i cannot comment as have not dynoed the before and after.

The grounding points of the car are the frame/chassis, engine block and the negative terminal of the battery. IMHO, you should ground your car cos the gains is definitely felt in terms of smoothness and the best thing is that there is no side effects.

JUST DO IT..
