my friends wants to get a basic Cayman from PI for like $225k.
Basic. no PASM, no this, no that.
Simple PI car

my butt feel is that he should consider the Audi A5 3.2 for like $205k listed

comments?

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

He should look at Audi S5 (V8, moonroof, bigger wheels, etc) instead of A5. Of cause Cayman half size of of a S5/A5 ;)

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

A5 and Cayman quite different cars imo

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

if brand is important, then cayman.

however, if within this 2 cars, A5 more practical.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

definitely the porsche.

the car is jus too sexy and curvy to resist.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

Tell your friend to wait till next yr when the PDK Cayman is launched

LOL hiadee, definitely better but the price are not same levels.

Any of these is fine IMO, just dont get BMW 3 series.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

There is utterly no comparison between the A5 and Cayman, no matter what Cayman. The Cayman is not a car to load up on conveniences like bluetooth, GPS, leather dash, leather seats, auto folding mirrors, carbon fiber trim, bling wheels, massage chairs, super in car entertainment stereo, subwoofer, etc. As it comes in base format is fine, and any options to be considered, in my own personal opinion, are performance options like PASM, gearbox, brake ducts, lightweight wheels, throttle remap, etc.

The A5 on the other hand is a comfortable coupe, which you should by all means load up the kitchen sink, and it'd be comfortable.

And for city driving the A5 is an excellent car, and while we're there considering the A5, one should also consider to bulk up to the RS5 beautiful bodykit, or consider the E92 3-series, Lexus GS and IS, probably the Mercedes C-Class.... for convenience, why not 4 doors?

To really impress others nowadays an Audi or Porsche or BMW or Merc is not sufficient. The game has moved up to at the very least the Masers, probably a 2nd hand Lambo or Ferrari, or perhaps the exception of an AMG SL63, or the extremely rare merc black series.

So the Audis, Porsches BMW and Mercs have reverted back to the basics - a car for one to drive without the capability to impress, and that's a load of pressure off the owner.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

I'd go for the Cayman without a doubt.

The A5 is not in the same class, it should be compared to the E92 instead imo.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

Depends on what ur friend wants and then go from there, Jeff!

The A5/S5 is more of a cruiser bruiser whereas the Cayman is a surgeon's tool. A5/S5 is also a more practical option too, unless ur friend is getting this as a 2nd/3rd car, then by all means, the Cayman seems a better buy for driving fun.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

OT - Is Audi resale in the first 2 years any worse than bimmer or porker?

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

I know the OMV of the Audi is lower. Case in point:

1. Audi S5 OMV - $64,000+, Selling price - S$245,000
2. BMW 335 OMV - $72,000+, Selling price - S$248,888

Cheers!

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

ah... my mate had a similar problem... but the waiting time for the A5 3.2 when he enquired 2 months ago is ridiculous.. somewhere around 8 mths. Is your friend aware of this?

Oh yes, thanks for reminding me, Alvin. The waiting time is ridiculous... My brother booked an Audi in July and the ETA is Feb 09. That's crazy!

From an OMV perspective, compared to a 335, the S5 is great value for money, it's a lot of car. But Premium is charging way too much for it, IMO.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

Yes, the S5 has tons of gadgets!! Machiam like Star Trek USS Enterprise command centre! :)

I assume the A5 3.2L would have tons of gadgets too!

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

The funny part is that S5 and the A5 3.2 is filled to the rim with all the options that u can ever find in the car options listing. The S5 is extremely loaded and how they keep the OMV so low is another story altogether. If u compare the px pt of the S5 in UK or Australia mkts, u will notice that the full spec S5 is way more expensive than a 335i in those other mkts. IMO, S5 pricing is real value for money if u just look at the "Amount of Car' u are getting as AudiSg is on a very aggressive marketing program. In yr 2002, when I bought my first Audi, most of the fellow owners were complaining about very low specs on all Audi Models Range. Fast forward to 2008, the options list is extensive but the complain now is why so low OMV? In short, we all want High Specs, High OMV but Low selling price and excellent after sales service. Is all this reasonable?

Btw, we only at best get back 50% of OMV difference in current legalisation when we scrapped our car so the difference of $8,000 will be $4,000 in the future. If u want to look at buying car using OMV, u will never owe a Porsche, Lambo, AMV or Ferrari. The profit those distributors earned are insane to begin with.

Re: Audi A5 3.2 or Cayman ???

Totally agree. I wouldn't be too fixated on the OMV. Look at what you are getting for your money (an S5 is arguably much better equipped than an equivalent E92 335i which costs more) and also your residual omv/parf value after 10 years (you only get 55% of the OMV back) - I think you will find the audi's are still pretty good value for money.
