Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Juz went to HG to talk to them for ICE upgrade for my ride. He recommended Audio System Amp F4-380 and Danish Acouctic 4" mid and tweeters. Morel sub. Audio control Hi-Lo, etc.

All the Ice gurus, any comment on this combination? I haven't heard much about Audio System Amp, are they good? DA speakers are not bad I was told. What abt Morel 10'' sub.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

its hard to comment like that bcos the suggested setup could be based on your budget. But the obvious thing that is lacking is midbass. I can only assume that you may reluctant to mod your door, and the stock door can only fit a 4" mids.

I would also suggest getting a separate independent amp for the sub, preferably a monoblock. Morel makes good stuff, especially the speakers, but i've never heard a morel sub in action b4 to be honest to offer much comment.

And personally preference plays a big part..the kind of sound characteristics etc etc..

i would personally skip the Audio control though..

Spot on man! I dont wish to cut a hole in the doors thus opted for 4" Mid and I will have a 2 ch Amp for the Sub. Free air.

I dont know how impt (or otherwise) to have Audio Control Hi-Lo. Any comment on this? The installer suggested to disconnect the rear speakers. Will it be better?

As for the amp, he also suggested Steg and Sinfoni, both are more ex than Audio System. What do u think of Audio System compared to Steg (slight more ex) and Sinfoni (>2X the price).

Thanks.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

its important to be careful with free air for sub. U need loads and loads of power. U can try bridge the 2ch for the sub, but u need to know if the sub is (1) dual voice coil (2) wat is the impendance (3) the amp can operate at how many ohm stable (4) wat is the rated power. I would still suggest a class AB monoblock. And to mount free-air.... the sub must be right, the amount of power must be right... i dont see how a 2 channel amp can give the kind of power.

as for the amps.... dunno much about audio system but sinfoni is superbly built. Whether its worth the price difference.... depends on who u speak to. I would suggest getting something that is favoured by the general public, so that if u need to sell them, can fetch better prices.

rear speakers are not important..becos u just want front stage. Save money also. U should consider modding the door though, else your midbass will be truly lacking.

THe whole architecture must be right. Cannot be top heavy or bottom heavy.. Audio control is a better than average hi-lo converter which u need if u are not changing headunit. Why not spend abit more and change the headunit ?

your budget is the key actually.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

So if I don't do a free air mounting, what other option do i have? Boot space is rather impt. I'll talk to HG about switching to a AB grade mono block.

As for the HU, I'll retain it for the original factory look. If I don't use audio control, is there any other brand u can recommend?

Sinfoni is good but damn EX! It's gonna burn a big hole in my pocket.

Thanks for the valuable info, bro. Beer on me.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

i prefer brandy hahaha.... free air mount also take up space la, and how are u gonna mount ? u are gonna cut ?

how much does audio control cost ? oh btw, HG should be reading this thread with great interests haha...

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Well, there's no secret right :)

Free air needs to cut which I'm not very keen, come to think about it. Audio control slightly less than half a grand. The whole set up is way over my original budget, now I'm prepared to stretch and stretch. Jialat. Price at HG is clearly more ex than other installer. Agree?

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Like u guys said, price of hardware is one third of the equation. Installation and tunning make up the other 2. I beleive HG are worth for their skill in installation and tunning.

But then again, if they can give me a good discount it'll be perfect.

Right, AGUY? :)

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

i think they are one of the more reputable ones around and are certainly familiar with bmws. You can try visiting a cheaper one, and a more expensive one and see how it goes.

u have important decisions to make dude... boot space vs cutting. Mod the door and use enclosure for sub maybe ? the price u pay for audio control can get a pretty decent headunit. There are much cheaper hi-lo converters around.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

oh btw...tuning is subjective hor...and there isnt much to tune since yours is a passive setup.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Passive set up. Not much to tune? haha. I didnt even know all these.

Will try some of the cheaper installers. Any suggestion? Is carsound in payalebar good? The guys at sgsound forum talk abt them qte a bit.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

hmmmm, seem that one headlight bro know me quite well.......... Lam, come down and we can discuss further......i seldom make posting here, so call me....hee

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

I don't claim to be an ICE expert but recently got my system upgraded at HG and am very happy with it. Consists of 6½ inch Eton components up front (required cutting a hole in the front door, but they've done lots of that, so no problem there) driven by a System Audio 2-channel amp, the 10" Morel Elate Sub driven by a 2nd hand Blaupunkt THA-280 amp (it's 200W x 2 into 4 ohms), Precision Power Pre-amp. In particular, the way that they mounted the Morel sub was really professional. I have the entire boot free without a damn box taking 1/4 of it up (btw, my previous Mac Audio active sub is still at HG for sale, if anyone is interested). To me, the Morel puts out more than sufficient bass although that being said, if bass is your thing, the Scanspeak Revelator Subwoofer which a friend installed at HG in his Alfa 159 is TRULY impressive. You need the box, however. It's too deep to be free-air. The only problem with HG is that every time I go there, I end up spending more money ... Next purchase : either an Alpine processor or a Tru Technology amp.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Glad u like yr set up :)
I'm gonna install the morel sub too. It's relatively thin and can be installed neeatly at the back without a big box. I'm still deciding between Audio System amp and Steg. Since u r using Audio System, any comment on the SQ?
Thanks :)

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Oh btw, did u keep the rear speakers or disconnect them?

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Hi all master,

Hope I can share my offered setup for views here.

1) 6.5" Danish Acoustic with tweeter (enlarge by cutting of the door internally)
2) 701 RUX/CUX Alpine
3) 2 x DLS 8" woofer (using the existing rears holes of the speakers)
4) 1 x used Precision Amps 4ch & 1 GS Amps 2ch OR 1 x NEW Audison 6.9 Amps 6 Ch
5) Amps conceal with Lightings (boot on back of rear seats)
6) Additional supporting wooden plank for the DLS 8"
7) Original BMW Head Unit remains
8) Active setup

Above good? But above budget and any possibility to reduce cost yet maintain the quality? Or can upgrade in stages like ulujungleboy.

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

i m no master, but this is wat i think.

8" sub will not go very low. A pair would require additional amp. Might as well use the budget for better front speakers.

Danish acoustics tweeters are not as nice as DLS , based on a friend's comment.

H701 wil have hissing problem with original headunit. how about changing headunit ..then if u think processing power not good enough, next time u add the H701.

would avoid a 6 channel amp... it will struggle big time. Which Audison range btw ?

pain pain do one time la.... save time, and probably save money also.

subjective. But really go to someone who is familiar with bimmers. u may get more confused the more installers u meet..haha...

Re: Audio Sytem & Danish Aciustic

Bro 1headlight, thanks for the advice. I've talked to a few installers and still think the one favoured by most here is the best. He really knows his stuff. Some of the other installers who claimed to have worked on bmw didnt even know there's a 6" sub under the front seat. Like that how to trust them :)

HG told me u r his customer. May I know what set up do u have?
Cheers.
