Average water temp reading in 335?

Plugged in a Scan Gauge just now and was kinda surprised to see 109 degrees on the water temp, anyone has similar experiences?

Kinda high for a F30 335 that has not been touched yet (as in mods)

Jason,

Temp is there about for stock setup.. Need not worry..

My 4cyc E90 is at 35 ~ 50 degree before morning start up. When reach work place is at 102 ~ 105 degree..
(I use the cluster built in gauge to view)

Cheers ~~ :)

Normal range for water temp.

Oil temp normal up to 120 degrees.

Re: Average water temp reading in 335?

If reach 100 degrees, means water becomes water vapour?

Correct at atmospheric pressure but the coolant system in a car is pressurised so the boiling point of the coolant is higher than 100.

Re: Average water temp reading in 335?

My water temp used to hover at abt 105 deg while engine temp hovers at 110-115 Deg, constantly for 'whichever part' of the day I drive.
After switching to Castol engine oil, I notice '2 patterns' - My water and engine temp now hovers at 93-96 Deg and 103-109 respectively during evening driving while during the morning plus afternoon, water and engine temp is 103-105 Deg and 110-115 Deg respectively. The latter also applies to frequent petal-to-metal driving for 30mins.

I read e water/engine temp from my steering wheel. My ride is not 335 but is N54 engine.

If u like to bring the water temp lower, try a thicker and bigger radiator, will drop by approximately 20-30 deg over current :p

Do more read up on this. Based on my understanding, there is certain default water temp for BMW. I asked before about this but adviced not to do so.

What in-depth you would like to know? Consider radiator change (or in shopping list) only if u r going to do many performance upgrades to boost up her power/torque... cooling is important when one upz e power/torque alot.

I did not change the OEM radiator in my ride as I trust what BMW had specified as there is no requirement to improve the cooling issue for now.

I posted e suggestion because of experience from previous ride where e ride's water temp hovers at 90+ Deg and upto 120+ Deg under normal and hard driving respectively. After changing to the biggest possible radiator that can fit, the water temp hovers at 72 Deg (normal) and upto 110+ Deg (hard driving or traffic jam)... all other parts unchanged nor type of coolant.

Been reading up / asking around since day one  Same answer as yurs.. stay as it is unless u touch engine.

My ride since day one, auxiliary fan kicks in MAX after 15~20mins of jam.. so thot of bringing it slightly lower or keep it more stable..
Anyway, im on Q for replacement ride to check it out. (CSA also find it not usual but no fault when dyno) :(

Thanks ~~ :)

IC ~~ Noted with thanks.. so far have for 335i & none or not trustworthly for 320i :(

Cheers ~~ :)

Re: Average water temp reading in 335?

Tortise, my scangauge reads 91 degrees.
Maybe because the driver is cool. Sart.
