Baby Car Seat Recommendations

Hi guys,

A couple of months back I found out I'm gonna be a father. Never have been one before (that I know of, LOL!) so I want to ask if there's any preference in the car seats from other forum members.

Any brands that work better with BMW's?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Baby Car Seat Recommendations

Most major brands will 'work' fine in our cars.
The key thing is to secure the seat firmly by tugging the seat belt to ensure a tight fit.

Protection of the leather seats may be a concern, so you can go buy a seat protector for about $50 from major mother/baby stores.

Another piece of advice: place baby into the baby seat as soon as he/she is discharged so that you will inculcate the behaviour of the child to always be seated in the car seat when in a car, and to also protect the baby in case of an accident.

I see many parents cradling their babies/toddlers in the car and it's actually very very risky to do so.

Ok, after all's been said, Congratulations on being a father soon! :) They'll be a joy for sure.

Re: Baby Car Seat Recommendations

because yours is a newborn, you will also need to buy head bolsters for your baby so that the head do not move about in the car, as the neck is still soft, and the width of the car seat head portion is still too wide for a newborn so there's too much room. You can pick one up at places like mothercare.

for car seats, buy one that supports isofix, because BMWs come with it. Buy one that comes with a tetherhook also, in case you need to transfer the seat to other cars in the future, and it has a tetherhook feature, that can come in use.

try not to buy second hand seats because you do not know if they are ever involved in accident before. The structural protections in baby seats are only good for one accident.

Thanks guys, lots of things I hadn't thought about. Still very new to this "father-to-be" thing. Much appreciated.

Bit the bullet and bought my lil one a Recaro Youngsport. First time ever I see him fall straight to sleep and stay that way for an entire 40min journey. So IMO, thats the best seat ever! My wife agrees.

Re: Baby Car Seat Recommendations

Congrats on the news!

I am on my second Maxi-Cosi.

First one was one that could also be fixed onto the pram, which helped a lot in keeping my son asleep. i.e. if he had fallen asleep during the car ride, we wouldn't run the risk of waking him up transferring him from car seat to pram, since we just move the whole seat and fix it on the pram. Same for the other way - if he had fallen asleep in the pram, we just transfer the whole seat to the car. You will really, really appreciate not waking your baby up if he/she is soundly sleeping, trust me.... lol

He has since overgrown that first one so we now have the next size up (but these are too big to be usable on any pram). In fact we have two of those, one in my car and one in my wife's car. He falls asleep quite easily in them so no complaints whatsover so far.

Re: Baby Car Seat Recommendations

Maxi Cosi Cabrio Fix rocks....I had it till he outgrown the chair at 9months. We perservered, he tolerated for an additional 3 months before cheapskate dad finally pulled the trigger on the Recaro. If Maxi Cose made larger seats that can go onto the Quinny Buzz stroller, I would have stuck to it.
