Re: Best Quote for 525 ?
I too feel that the E class doesn't drive as well as the 5 series but creature comfort wise, its definitely one up against the bimmer. I'm talking from the passenger point of view. Either way, at this price point, u can't go seriously wrong with either car. However, having a family tradition of over 20 years experience with BMW cars as well as the Kampong Arang service centre being only 2 min away from my residence, its definitely another point of consideration. But the merc's 20K price difference is still a really great deal. Anyway, I don't recall the merc being noisy or what or probably I wasn't paying enough attention to that...

For the E200K, the engine sounds like a taxi when revved - probably because of the supercharger.
So I tried the E230, and the engine and gearbox is much smoother. However, this then exposed another weakness in the E-class - sound insulation is surprisingly bad. I could hear so much tyre/wind noise at 60 km/h that I didn't feel like driving any faster. The power steering is also way too light, IMHO.
On the plus side, the stock sound system is better than in the 520, 523 and the latest batch of lower-specced 525s.
For the reasons above, I wouldn't consider the E-class.
Just my 2 cents' worth.
