Between DS and auto

I am driving a 2007 e90 320...I noticed my car tends to be sluggish on auto but after switching to DS for a while then switch back to auto, car becomes more powerful. Anyone has same experience and is it an issue?

Re: Between DS and auto

Carbon built up in the combustion chamber, in the DS mode the rpm tend to stay higher than auto mode, thus released more carbon in it, so engine works better, as stated by Christopher, NS highway is the best place to clean the carbon built up.

Hmmm...don't really understand the mechanics behind ds and auto but beginning to enjoy driving in ds lately due to the push. Feel the ultimate driving machine

How do you guys drive when you are "clearing carbon" along NSHW?

1st step, wear seat belt
2nd step, high beam on
3rd step, fully depress accel pedal
4th step, DO NOT USE BRAKE FOR 100KM
5th step, Carbon clearing procedure is Completed, IF YOU STILL ALIVE!

Basic mechanics of auto and ds... auto is always 1 gear higher at any given rpm e.g. stationary to move is from 2nd gear while ds would be moving off at 1st gear.

During casual driving/cruising mode - auto will up shift at lower rpm while ds will up shift at higher rpm... do remember auto starts from 2nd gear while ds starts at 1st thus at abt 80-90kmph auto would have reached the last high gear while ds would still be 1 gear before last.

Of course driving in ds mode your FC will be worst off.

Cheers

Re: Between DS and auto

After driving slow for a long time, my car does get sluggish too I feel. It helps to reset the transmission sometimes to relearn your driving habits. Here's how you do it:

1. Key in slot, do not touch brake pedal
2. Still not touching brake pedal, hit start button
3. Floor throttle pedal for a good 30 seconds (used my phone stopwatch, it's longer than you think)
4. Still not touching brake pedal, hit start button again
5. Wait 30 seconds
6. Start the car normally

This was something I saved from E90post a while back. Hope it helps.

Re: Between DS and auto

DS mode means the computer that control the gear changes hold the shift to higher gear at higher rpm, for instance from 2nd gear to 3rd gear in auto mode the changes happened at 2500rpm, in DS mode it will happen at 4000rpm, so the car feel more powerful as the higher rpm produce more horse power.
For cleaning the carbon in the combustion chamber, simple procedure as follow,
- Drive the car for 20km or more to get the engine to working temperature.
- Off the A/C button, the blower still on, as high rpm tend to put huge pressure to piston in the A/C compressor.
- Switch the auto mode to DS and push upward, the gear will change to some number let say 3, means 3rd gear.
- push the accelerator pedal to the floor till the rpm stay at 6700 for about 1 -2 minutes, all carbon should be out by now.

Return to your normal driving habit, the reason for NSHW is because it has enough distance to perform the speed.
