Hi,

Anyone knows how much horsepower is the 2001 E46 318ia rated at? Mine's the facelifted 2002 model. Always get a bit tongue-tight when asked this question.. Pai Seh when I say don't know/ haha!!

Anyway, like to also know if it's with valvetronic engine?

I'm doing ~450km on full tank, filling ~58litres.. Is the consumption reasonable? Understand that the newer models are more fuel-economy, not sure what I'm losing going to maybe the later E46s or the E90.. Btw, I'm running on 17" with 225/45 profile..

Thanks man..

facelifted is the valvatronic engine, at 140bhp. the prefacelifted 1998 model is a 1.9L 8 valve M42 engine, putting out 118bhp

I thought it is 143bhp for the N42 engine??

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

Shd be 143bhp. The previous e36318is will churn out 140bhp.

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

Correct me if I am wrong:

M42 1.8L 16V( E36 318iS up to 1995) : 140bhp
M43 1.8L 8V(E36 318i) : 118bhp
M44 1.9L 16V(E36 318iS 1995 ->) : 140bhp
N42 2.0L 16V, Vanos(E46 318i 1998 ->) : 143bhp

Merry Xmas!

Sorry guys, I'm kinda confused... To confirm, it's 118bhp with an M43 engine. Is that right?

Thanks..

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

Cheez, if you got a M43 then you are looking at 118BHP. If you cannot confirm then take a snapshot of your engine bay and post it... sure got brudders reply one....

The replies will also be followed by mod suggestions..... haha..

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

Just got confirmation that it's a M43 block with 118bhp.. Thanks for all the help and advise guys..

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

Why in Singapore is there all this interest and concern for BHP ? Seems to me that there is little opportunity to utilize HP in Singapore. If anyone says they want quick response and ability to launch from a green light, then it's torque that you are after. I used to have a 328i Coupe with M-Kit, and it had torque in spades. You could launch yourself onto a highway whilst being pushed back into your seats. The engine had torque and HP. The new 330 has more of both, but is a bit less sporting. I now have a humble 318i (118 HP), but still it has enough pick-up from a stand still to give me enjoyment on the roads. I dont see the need for more power, as I always seem to be going too fast anyway without realizing it. Happy motoring. Also, when will some of the local mags learn that if it has 4 wheels it's not a "Beamer" but a "Bimmer" Beamers have 2 wheels.

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

Agreed. Coz my previous ride is a sti. 400nm torque at 6500rpm!
At that kind of rpm b4 u know it u r strictly above the speed limit.
Considering nowadays those white ants are super aggressive, i think made the
right choice to dump it for my E46 318I. Although 143hp. I'm enjoying drivin more!

:) Cheers!

Re: BHP for 2001 E46?

think the non-valvetronic is 1800++ cc while the valvetronic N42 is 1995cc...
