Throttle, my front brake is Brembo Max (it looks slotted to me) wif Textar brake pad (OEM). It is good enough to stop my car.

Re: Big Brake Kit

thanks for the info David.

The braking power is fine but the squeal is really crazy lately during slow motion.

So was thinking of taking the opportunity to change all the rotors and pads to better ones.

how about servicing the brake pads/rotors
any shops to recommend?
I feel like trying that before replacing them.

BBK, my wife kowpay say i waste money becos in 2 yrs time, will likely sell the car.
I cant disagree to that......haiz

Re: Big Brake Kit

Hey, 6er rotors are quite big to begin with so BBK covers should do fine if you don't want to spend too much $$. But it's a real joke coz 6er owners normally should be able to afford "small" cosmetic mods like BBK. So my vote goes to Brembo GT 8 pot front and 6 rear.

If you want to go with just rotors, then choose slotted ones. Brembo should have nice rotors to go with your stock calipers. Best to ask experts like the Great White. Doesn't matter how long you're keeping the car, as long as you spend any $ on it, it's flushed down the sewer. Just do it for the love of the sport. That's why I'm in such deep shite right now...too much love for this sport.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those almost extinct poor 6er owners.
$10k for BBK is equivalent to half year cigar supply. :shakehea:
Not worth it for someone driving to work and back, clocking 1000km per month mostly under
60km/hr

but I wont resort to using the covers.
either yes or no, wont fake.

Yeah, unlike you I have little love for this sport.

I think u could get ur regular workshop to check out the squeal. Mine will also squeal if i don't drive my car for 2 wks (my wife use it daily). I will brake hard to reduce the squeal.

Anyway, in the morning (before u drive the car), touch the surface of rotor. If it is uneven, it is time to change. I got my rotor in KL as Lintrak (Brembo distributor) don't have my front disc.

No probs dude. We will slowly inject poison. Soon your love for the sport will grow, regardless of your financial status. LOL. You can also try other brand offerings, e.g. Alcon, Stop Tech, Rotora....Ask around, the site sponsors here should be able to give you a quote in a jiffy.

I believe even the lesser brands start at S$7/8k+ for front and rear. You can always try second hand.

Re: Big Brake Kit

I see, thx Siong, second hand find from where?
any tips?
super newbie here.

but not keen on second hand if have to bracket here and there.

thanks

Re: Big Brake Kit

Normal route is to do a search of the forums or post as a WTB and see if anyone responds. Depends on your luck really if anyone happens to be upgrading from an appropriate compatible model to another car and is selling off parts.

Personally if you don't track (which I don't) then go for cross drilled.

Mine are here:

E92 (Brembo BBK)
http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/suspen.../30006-my-new-rims-breyton-race-gts-20-a.html

and
E53 Brembo cross drilled rotors only
http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/suspen...-section/30519-e53-x5-22-tyre-question-2.html

Good luck with your search!

Re: Big Brake Kit

Wah thats gonna be tough, not many E63s out there to begin with and not many as crazy as
ACS6.

thanks Siong..

cheers

Re: Big Brake Kit

You should try a post and you may get "others" offering you good discounts in these troubled times...good luck

Re: Big Brake Kit

WTS, I have a set of used Rotora Brake kit for BMW E60, only used less than 1 month... anyone interested? 380mm with 6 piston for front and 350mm with 4 piston for back. Drilled and Slotted Disc.

Re: Big Brake Kit

I used to have the same deliberation as you. Wanted it for aesthetics at first. After researching the market, for brand new prices all start from 7/8k onwards for a full set of front and rear. So i decided that I might as well go for the best known Brembos as its just paying a little more. Lesser known brands are taiwanese and you'd see no resale demand at all in future and you'd see that you either give it away when you sell the car in future, or have it stuck in your store room unless you sell it for 2k?

I considered buying used brakes too. But then again, its very very hard to find folks who spend that much on their cars and yet do not drive it much (I do only 10,000km or less per year, but this may not be common). Meaning that the BBK condition would have worn discs, and pads that may just have a few months of life left? Replacing these wear and tear items would cost a few thousands, so it a no brainer to buy brand new.

So at the end, ordered Brembo GT 380mm 8pot front, 4 pot rear from Wilson. Once fitted and bedded in, I can tell you that I've never regretted. Truly started seeing the benefits in performance, its truly confidence inspiring as you know you have the stopping power and so much headroom to play with. Even in normal driving situations, I can say that this BBK set has saved me a couple of times where on PIE/CTE and cars in front had to do a e-brake, I could easily stop in time, and because the brakes are so powerful I can even have the time to moderate the force, glancing at the back just to ensure that the car at the back won't slam into me. In many cases because of these brakes I can slow down fast enough, change lane, and totally avoid that slowdown or potential accident situation.

For the past few months, i no longer look at the brakes, even though its still awesome, and fills up the ugly gaps as we all fit 19 or 20" wheels, but I cherish it more for its daily reliable performance instead. Bear in mind I was benchmarking against the bigger 530i stock brakes, and my car isn't supercharged or anything, even stock power - I already appreciate that performance.

brakes are very important. go for established brands

Agreed and actually I find it kinda worrisome that lots of re-branded BBKs are coming out into the market now, and actually all Taiwan OEM and just some snazzy looking brand. Not that price is like 50% of brembos/AP etc but just a bit cheaper.

Its a matter of time before the China made ones flood the market - or have they already and every one just claims either Taiwan or USA. The other thing is also that there isn't a widely known nor followed certification standard for safety etc, and is left to consumers to decide. What if someone came up with really cheap, impressive and huge 8 pot kits and selling at 2k? I would guess that lots of consumers would want to realize that low entry barrier without much of a 2nd thought - until it really fails in moment of need. All too easy for metal fatigue to kick in and snap at the crucial moment. I dunno who they will chase after. The workshop, the sub distributor, the 1 yr old company that does the re-branding, the mass producer etc.

Maybe I'm just totally out of touch with the industry but I am certainly curious.

Re: Big Brake Kit

Yes, I was considering a Taiwan bbk by a famous exhaust shop at the corner of ubi, in the end I chose not to.
