if you do not have the option, retrofit will cost about 1K just in parts alone. there is still coding to be done for the car.
when i did mine, i was quoted 2.1K for coding and hardware by one of the site sponsors.
as my E90 LCI came with the USB option, my retrofit cost me less than $200 for the bluetooth antenna, mic, antenna cable, mic wire and wiring pins for connecting to the module controlling the USB. i DIY the coding.
parts needed (if you have the MULF2) are
microphone: 84316938762
BT antenna: 84506928461
antenna cable is SMB female to SMB female cable. can buy this from eBay
mic wiring is just any normal wires which comes in 1 pair or you can buy more expensive shielded cable
wiring pins are MQS pins which can be bought from RS components singapore.

lim_ck;949501 said:the headunit is independent of the BT feature as the original setup for BT is controlled by either a TCU (for BMW Assist) or a MULF2(USB functions) which are seperate modules and connected to the headunit by the car's optic fiber network. the BT antenna and mic wirings are then connected back to the TCU or MULF2. these wirings would have existed for cars which come with phone prep or the option SA640. i read that BMW did install phone prep for all cars built prior to march 2009. but i'm not sure if this applicable to our local models. you can always log on to BMW parts catalogue site to check what options your car came from the factory. Electronic parts catalogue
however, the expensive part for this retrofit is the MULF2 module which costs about 600 to 800 compared to the wiring/cables which cost less than $50.
there is a newer version of headunit for E90 which comes integrated with BT and USB functions which you can buy and retrofit which might be a cheaper solution. but you still require coding for the functions to work which some site sponsors do not offer the coding only service.
Jetpilot;949531 said:Thanks bro. I guess it is not worthwhile to get that unless I can get a 2nd hand unit.
As for decoding, that maybe a challenge.
I found the bluetooth with USB function headunit that cost about 400-500. Besides the decoding, I am afraid my car doesn't have the wiring.
lim_ck;949547 said:coding will be a challenge for these new headunits as techincally, these newer headunits are not supposed to be installed on the PFL E90s. but i have read that the folks in US has managed to get it working but after alot of trial and errors with coding and using more expensive coding hardware rather than the cheap OBD cable.
Jetpilot;949584 said:Guess I got to give it a miss then. Wonder if I can get a cheaper MULF2 or a TCU? which one would you suggest that I go for if I want to get one?

canuck78;949675 said:Another option cheaper and faster, just get a Bluetooth enabled GPS.
I pick up all my calls on the GPS screen while driving.
Cheap solution.
lim_ck;949616 said:No point getting a TCU. MULF2 can give u USB functionality as well. But you need to check if your car already has the MOST bus installed an your headunit had optical connections to the MOST bus. If your car does not have these 2 basic requirements, then things will get more expensive since you need to change head unit and install optic fibers in the car.
You can find used MULF2 modules on eBay. Best is get those marked as MULF2 high basis SVS as these modules give you voice control for the BT phone as well.

Jetpilot;949683 said:noted with thanks. Guess I got to get it check with PML before I start searching for parts.
lim_ck;949690 said:No need go to PML. Just need to remove the head unit to check the audio connector. If you dare do, can even DIY. The connector should have 2 thick green cables which are the optic fiber cables.
Jetpilot;949684 said:thanks. but Propel price are almost brand new prices. The price does not age with the age of the item.
lim_ck;949687 said:I had the BMW garmin which integrates with the car audio for calls as well. But having to plug the GPS onto its holder just to use the phone function is a big turn off which is why I did the BT retrofit after finding that I had a MULF2 in my car.
canuck78;949720 said:Well, I leave my GPS permanently mounted and auto-start every time. But yeah it doesn't auto mute the radio which is a hassle.
So for PFL e90 the first step is to remove the head unit to check for the 2 green auto cables?
