Hi All,

I am a new comer to this forum. I would like to ask if anyone can advice me on this issue.

I view this car BMW 520iA, 1991, 4 owners, for $33,000.

Is it a good buy or the dealer is overcharging me for this car and I am dont know whether the dealers price is within the market price.

Your advice on this will HELP me to decide.

Thanks

Don

Hi Don,

What was the COE amt paid for renewal and how many more years to go? I wouldn't pay more than $4k per year. Bear in mind the higher road tax and the money you have to put aside for replacement of the wear and tear items for an old car. With car prices at rock bottom prices, I would advise you to buy newer models, many are selling at close to paper value already..

Don,

Pls dun double-post lah. U also posted one under technical discussion when nothing technical abt this wor.

Anyway, as GP said, $4k p.a. depreciation is abt rite coz the body not worth much. U are better off getting a 2002 318i valevetronic and getting a longer loan period. U may also wish to check with the e34s forummers for feedback on model first. Gd luck ;)

Don,

Was toying with the idea of getting one as a second car, saw a black one, 2 owners, done close to 200,000km going for S$20k with slightly under 6years left to run.

Hi Don,

The E34 is a nice car. The car you are viewing is a 24v engine. Dunno if it single VANOS unit....if it is the engine code is M50.

Specs are 150bhp and I think 200Nm (could be wrong...but would be close)

The car is old already and you must be prepared to fork out some $$ to bring the car back into shape. Unless you seriously bo chup....prob you can get away with it.

This is a nice car...good space and smooth engine.

The price is around the market rate....look around cos there are many selling this car. Try to bargain at the price cos the dealer cannot be selling it in a hurrry....cos not much buyer since new cars now are dirt cheap as compare to previously.

If you got some other enquiry, go to the Classic Model folder and post the question....there are a couple of E34 owners here.

Opss..too bad.

Nvm...plenty of other choices out there.

Look around....dun be lured by the colour...most important thing is....chassis and engine must be good. Colour can send for respray one.

I am from the classic e34 forum.

Bought my e34 last April, at 294k on the clock and its now 306k. just run in, says my machanic! Its a 1991, has the M50 engine and 5 speed auto. i love the car to death and its not for sale, but, in the 25 years i have been owning cars, this was the best buy and the most satisfying one. Machanically it was in good shape, interior is in excellent shape, and ready for another 20 years!

I started out looking for a W124, but whilst many good ones were available, i did not like they way they drove, and the truck engine. The BMW six is in a different world.

e34 ownership has its pros and cons. The cons are higher fuel consumption, higher road tax, and whilst the M50 is much more powerful than the M20, its still very short on torque. its not as heavy as people think either, mine weighs 1470kgs. The pros are the superb chassis, refinement, and that galvanised body that doesn't rust. Spare parts are surprisingly resonably priced and the cars are mostly trouble free. in germany its known as the most reliable BMW ever built. I get a real kick everytime i drive it, knowing that to get the same feel good factor brand new you still need to buy a 5 series or a e class; yes, they were that far ahead of their time.

i have been slowly restoring mine, and it drives practically as good as new now. Most rewarding.

The e34ers on the forum are great guys. we have met before, and had a ball together. There is tremendous resource available on the internet. just search e34!
