Go PML test the 535. When you are done I standby in a demo M3 coupe along the road for you to give it a go. Feeling is believing. :)

Hetraa
BBK calipers are all alu so naturally lighter
Some on forged alu billet monobloc like Brembo GTR and latest Alcon, some are monobloc but cast process such as Brembo GTs which you see mostly..
The light weight saving comes from BBK set ups are from two things :
1. Calipers
2. Disc rotors ( the center alu hat makes the difference )

Jason

I got the latest Prodrive wheels GC012L and AP Racing brakes
The wheels are forged monoblock. Not as light as the Volk one but damn, it shaved 2.3kg per corner also!

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

That's because the brake pads are still in it !! am I correct?
mayb U bought the fake STop Tech haha

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

Heavier calipers are ok, they dont rotate so no rotational resistance unlike rotors..

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

when u get out of the car, it saves at least 70kg
for kenn, even more

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

few years ago, i used to be 'xiao on' in lightening weight to the extent of buying lightweight batteries, wiper washer half tank, remove spare tyre, and removal of trunk carpets and tools..but now F it already..

heavy heavy la! the hp/ torque must make up for it..

exhaust already changed also, yeah few kgs also but that's sprung weight reduction..

Reducing weight helps in straight line speed but not as drastic as one would expect. You're certainly not going knock off a tenth of a second in a quarter mile for by losing 25-50 kilos which is quite a lot of effort if this is your daily car.

The difference you make in losing 25-50kilos would be more beneficial in the corners as compared to straight line.

The rule of thumb in losing weight is that you rid the non essentials first as they are cheaper. Eg. Rear seats, door trims (quickest, easiest) and the above of what you mentioned.

After that you really have to spend money to replace essentials with lighter parts. Eg, CFRP seats, A/C removal, lighter LSD, Diff support brackets, CF propshafts, Stereo, CF doors boot bonnet (if aluminium, there may not be much trade offs), rims, rotors, calipers, rollbars, exhaust, radiator, IC pipes. etc etc

Can't say for the other vehicles, but when I did the figures on my Evo 9, I was looking at about $250Aud/Kg saved. About $336sgd.

Not applicable in Singapore context. But if one is chasing weight, best buy a car that comes light from factory.

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

and that usually costs a boMb

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

535i v M3. Choose the M3. It is quite a no-brainer if wallet is heavy.

Want massive torque-to-weight ratio from factory, I will go for something else which isn't a BMW at all.

Indeed. The $336Sgd/Kg is combined weight. The CFRP seats, A/C helps offset this figure.

If for example you intend to change only the CF propshaft, which cost $3200Sgd. Weight Savings of 3.75Kg.

You are looking at about $853/Kg saved...

Generally one should always spend money on items that will give you the highest yield in per kilo saved for every dollar spent.

CF props are just one of the few items that comes last on the list in terms of weight savings philosophy.

like A5 cab ?

Re: Bmw 535i vs E92 M3 DCT

yeah agree, a couple of 20-30kgs in relation to total conti car weight, pointless, perhaps only shave 0.3 s. so no point...

wanna save weight, play japanese car.. low maintenance, stripped out carpeting, buckets, etc.

normal daily non sporty conti car save weight is quite pointless. the auto seats already damn heavy. somemore in my context now, put in baby seat, passenger, negates all the weight savings.

hmm is A5 TC? Wasn't thinking about Audi.

Try the Porky turbo or GT2. The torque from 2k rpm is amazing. Even the GTR torque is linear by comparison.
