BMW Eye Eight or Porker Nine Eleven?

Re: BMW Eye Eight or Porker Nine Eleven?

I love these hypothetical, suppositional, theoretical discussions, and I love the fact that there are other people out there (Welch, for example) that are similarly careful to highlight the word IF when that word is placed before certain key phrases like "purchase", "new", "car". :lol2:

IF I were looking to buy a new car, ostensibly to take advantage of the falling COE at this point in time, I would have to let go of one of my existing rides. At the moment, She Who Must Be Obeyed has clearly said to leave the last of the strawberry creamy, silky-smooth, atmospheric gulping N52 inline six found in her F02 alone. She loves that car, and she's not tech-inclined, so whether or not the new G11 can park itself or read my middle finger doesn't quite appeal to her (although she will read the forums from time to time, dangnabit).

My F15 isn't even a year old yet, and hasn't even really been broken in (it has less than 5000km on the clock), so that's obviously out of the question - and in any case, I need a minibus to haul the free-loading, I mean, well-meaning relatives around, whenever they come a-visiting.

Unfortunately, I got rid of the F30 316i in order for wifey to agree to the F15 above, so that's no longer an option to sell.

Looks like it'll have to be the F13 that will get the swift boot out of the garage if I ever do decide that the couch is as good a place to spend the rest of the year on - because that's where I'll find myself, if I were to buy a new car without wifey's permission :lol2:

Re: BMW Eye Eight or Porker Nine Eleven?

911 - legacy with renowned performance
i8 - more like buying into BMW idea of a electric sports car
Depends if you are getting it more for performance or just for the sake of looking sporty

Re: BMW Eye Eight or Porker Nine Eleven?

Actually, looking at your fleet, your F02 is an IL6. Your F15 is also an IL6. The porker is a flat 6.

IF you were to change to a sports car, perhaps you might entertain a different engine like perhaps a V8. May I interest Sir in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage......

Definitely a lot more classy than a Porker.

But I thought the THEORETICAL exercise was $600k. On Sgcarmart I see the Aston Martin V8 Vantage 4.7(M) going for 520k (w/o COE) and the 4.7(A) going for 540k(w/o COE). Given that COE tends to INEXPLICABLY drop the closer we get to elections, The V8 Vantage might very well be an option in this hypothetical exercise of a $600k vehicle.

Re: BMW Eye Eight or Porker Nine Eleven?

wahliao Welch - like I said, you are a dangerous man, in theory :lol2:

Theoretically, there is another British beauty with supercharged V8 call Jaguar F Type.

The Ghibli is a gorgeous 4 door sedan but I already have a 5er,so IF I were to replace my car, I don't want another 4 door sedan.

I love a coupe as it seems to really incite green eye rage......people love to pass disparaging remarks about my 1)manhood or lack thereof 2)midlife crisis 3)occupation...must be a pimp/playboy or something etc. Women, on the other hand, seem to love coupes and have come up to compliment me on its looks. Maybe that is why their husbands need to pass remarks to feel better about themselves......

Oic thats true. Anyways sharing something which I think is weird. Since my younger days, I have never liked coupes, I always liked sporty 4 door sedans but of late, Im beginning to think of coupes or cabrios and I would like to have one as a second car. My friends do find it weird and commented that Im having a mid life crisis lol.

For me, I like the following for a second car:-

1) Boxster S
2) 6er Cab

Yeah, now Im beginning to find coupes are sexy things and I think yeah, women like men in coupes. haha!

IMHO, the logical solution would be to part with the F02 as it is the oldest and the latest model is on the horizon. Then get your next car as the X5 would be sufficient as a people carrier lol BUT......there is always a BUT.....certain things cannot be done due to a myraid of reasons which you have mentioned....:p

You don't need two sensible cars bro. Take my advice, try a coupe as a second car. You will love it.

The only people who say it is a mid life crisis are those who can't afford to have it.

I may be midlife but I am not having any crisis. I am having a blast. This is the best decade of my life.

Boxster S or 6er cab are both fabulous ways of having a mid life blast.....enjoy the journey.
