Dear All,
For context my ride is a 2011 F10 523i with base audio.

Thinking of getting HK speakers online mainly from China.

Anyone knows whether our front door midrange speakers are 4 inch or 4.5 inch?

For those who had installed, can I check how is the sound quality like?

Cheers

Hi avoid those like the plague, yes they LOOK good but that's the extent of it. Gotta ask yourself what you're after just looks or something with substance ?

Caveat you'll need a AMP to run it all and a tuner, something like this i'd buy it locally and pay what they are asking as they'll need to install it all and then tune the DSP.

Want something totally integrated ? Get the complete package here:

All the best with which way you choose to go but the china speakers are not great. If you want to start i'd suggest a AMP and DSP to begin with. The stock speakers are not operating at its best as its underpowered. Try that out 1st before splashing out on a 4k system and not understanding what each piece of equipment got you.

Focal f10 bmw premium 9.2 <<--- This is what I'm shooting for next direct plug and play.

Buy it here LITERALLY 1/2 price from what SG prices are.

Thanks Bro Rssid.

Helpful as always!

By chance do you happen to know the size of the front door midrange speakers?

Tech spec size for the front is 5' i believe according to the data provided by Focal. Note when focal mentions WOOFER in the sheets its actually the main body of the speaker.

Alternatively check with our site sponsor JDM Daniel they do direct plug and play speakers as well. Weirdly enuff they list their front speakers as 4'

NOTE: The only audio related thing i'd buy from the china websites are the tweeter encasements.

Here's another direct plug and play system for the base HiFi system

Anyone installed hk speakers before?

Don't mind to share?

The HK speakers can be installed but the HK system is also backed up by the HK amp.Just changing out the mid range speakers might not do much to the sound quality.AFAIK Elebest who was a sponsor here previously installs full HK systems .That being said the HK is a decent factory system however the aftermarket should be much better .

Yup agreed these days hardware is NOTHING without the correct full setup AND tuning for it. Was considering just shoving in B&O replacement speakers but soon realised without the B&O amp and tuning and coding it'll never perform properly. But to be honest I just changed the AMP to the Match UP 7 BMW and the effects was huge !

Ya.also some of the cars with the base BMW system don't even have an amp.The speakers are driven by the HU itself. So just plonking in an amp would improve SQ.

There are a few brands currently which offer direct plug and play; Match, Ground Zero, Eton, Focal to name a few.

Depends on your requirement really, if you are just looking for upgrade over stock speaker, then upgrading to a good quality front speaker+tweeter will suffice. If still not satisfied then upgrade the underseat woofer as well. Another step forward will be as rssid mentioned, to add a DSP amp or amp.

I had the stock speakers previously. I bought my own tweeter cover online and installed the Ground Zero front speakers+tweeter. For me the sound quality is much better than stock. Next step for me is to upgrade the underseat woofer + DSP amp.

Thanks everyone ☺.

Erm think it differs from model to model. The match 7up directly replaces the 676a amp.

You'll need a different model but it'll be close to 1.3k locally. You'll need to get it locally as you'll need custom wiring to get it to work then you'll need to get it tuned for your car and speaker setup.

Look up Soon Lee Audio they do good work and not out to rip people off.

It's best to decide how much and how far you'd like to go with your setup.
Keep in mind sound is a very personal thing and varies greatly from person to person so someone's 5k setup might not sound like much of an upgrade over stock to others.
Also audio setups like focal and others that were designed to work with the complete setup, I.e. try not to mix and match brands unless you know what you're doing. (I don't so I'm just going for everything from the same manufacturer as much as possible)
Lastly the quality of songs you play will make a huge difference so always play in as high res as possible.
Shop around many audio shops to choose locally see what they recommend for your car and have fun !
