BMW M3 Sedan to be Cancelled!!!

BMW will be cancelling the BMW M3 Sedan when the next generation 3-series, codenamed F30, is released, according to Automobile Magazine. The company will continue to sell the M3 as both a coupe and convertible, with each getting a straight-six 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine producing 450 horsepower (336 kW, 456 PS).

In addition, the magazine says that the company will put the 3er Gran Turismo on the market from March 2013. That date coincides with the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The GT will be one of five body styles for the car, including the sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible, all due out between March 2012 and 2014. A shooting brake variant could also be released down the line.

Like the wagon, the GT3 is expected to get a long wheelbase providing more cargo space and legroom. A panoramic sliding glass roof may also be optionally available for both vehicles.

For the 3-Series, BMW will use four cylinder petrol and diesel engines that are both more powerful and fuel efficient than previous models. Engines range from 136 horsepower (101 kW, 138 PS) to 252 hp (188 kW, 256 PS).

but diff category altogether, porsch and aston is targetting the 7 series and s class segment

So wasted they getting rid of the M3 sedan. it was the perfect mix of speed, handling and everyday usability.

cost reductions are at the top of most companies priorities. i guess the sedan was not racking in sales for management to go down this route.

quite possibly. the m3 had always been a coupe. not much publicity on the E90 sedan as compared to coupe.

well, i think that it is a very well thought out car. look at the audi rs4 for example. practical, fast, aggressive. who says that a family man can't own a sports car?

its ok la. merc never had a coupe in the C63 AMG. so long as u have something in that segment to compete it shld be fine. be it 2 or 4 doors.

Well said, though Slater is correct to say Porsche and Aston Martin cater to different cat, these cars show that sports car can have 4-doors.

the Porsche and the Aston Martin are semi-super cars masquerading as saloon cars whereas the rest are more like saloon cars hopped up on steriods. Their lineages are completely different and should not even be compared with the M3 sedan. In anyways, it will sad to see the M3 sedan go. I actually liked the look of it more than the coupe.

dunno how true la. maybe in a few months time bmw will reverse its decision. some yrs back they said they wanted to cann the M5 as well coz the 545i is powerful enough as it is. in the end still went ahead with it.
