Re: Bmw=porsche?

I've owned BMWs for a while and really like them, but from what I've seen, felt, driven, no way a Porsche=BMW. If I could afford it (i.e get a 2nd car for weekends), it'll be a GT3 for sure. There's just something about Porsche, especially the 911 range. No one makes cars like them.

We're talking here about a mass produced car, but just sit in one, or run you hands along the bodywork, you immediately feel it's special, the attention to detail, everything is top quality, workmanship is immpecable, it's just so bulletproof. And we're not talking Ferrari, Lambo or Bentley prices here, but you won't believe it came out of a mass production factory.

BMWs are fantastic cars, but they never feel special, not even the Ms. Somehow you always get the sense that what you're driving is just one of hundreds of thousands.

Just my honest opinion

Re: Bmw=porsche?

i beg to differ bro eggz.
When u compare a bimmer to a porsche, of course u'll say it doesnt feel special.
Just like when u take a prosche and u compare it with a lambroghini, u'll also say the porsche doesnt feel special.

For me, any car is special. As long as u make it ur special car.

Re: Bmw=porsche?

hm, Patek and IWC, both not german...
should be smth like, Lange & Sohne (Porsche) vs well, Glashutte (BMW)
irrelevant...

if both cars were subjected to a chick test...

a girl would prob never tell an M car from the other BMWs (if she does, she's wife material)
but in all probability, she'd recognise the Porsche badge as smth special..

Re: Bmw=porsche?

everyone shld buy a bmw n porsche, esp me but to do that someone pls help assasinate my bosses...tolong !

Re: Bmw=porsche?

Not everyone will want to graduate from a BMW to a porker even if they can afford it. There are entire segments in the market who

(1) prefer fast luxo-barge cruisers,
(2) value comfort over a cantankerous flat six engine and vacuum like exhaust,
(3) yearn for the latest high tech in car gadgetry,
(4) want to fly under the radar and not stand out too much from the crowd
(5) understand the importance of size in a world of prado landcruisers, giant SUVs, bloated MPVs, taxis, housewifes, p platers, weekend drivers, etc

These people will be entirely happy with their 5/6/7/M6/M5 series and may jump ship to Maserati but will find the carrera/boxster/cayman range unappealing. A porker will feel cramped, noisy, too flashy, and vunerable to them

Re: Bmw=porsche?

I have always been suan by driving a BMW.... In singapore, Its BMW everywhere. Go into a commercial multi story car park, at least 1 BMW in each level. So its so common that it will not stand out.

Now the puzzling thing is why porsche makes more money than BMW. How can a niche market manufacturer earns more than a general market manufacturer? Or i say Toyota... Even the US is now full of them. How can porsche could have been even Toyota in terms of profit. Its just like saying apple beating intel in terms of profit. I am not sure if this is a accurate analogy.

Re: Bmw=porsche?

I haven't compared the annual reports of BMW vs Porsche so I can't give you an in-depth assessment.
But to answer your question very quickly, Porsche is the most profitable car maker in the world because it enjoys a nice blend of volume and higher margins per unit car sold. (less volume than BMW but more margin, less margin than Ferrari but more volume for eg.)

Cheers,
B

Re: Bmw=porsche?

Yes...porsche's profit margin per car is much higher than bmw's. Furthermore it's the higher end models for porsche that make the most profit for the car manufacturer...

back to my analogy (complete with kenntona's suggestion)..it's like patek phillipe vs IWC.
