BMW tuner exhaust vs "mass market" aftermarket exh

More edged towards being exclusive.

Just like if you're the only one with Alpina body parts and exhaust, but not much different in terms of performance.

they also ask regular exhaust makers to make for them, eg remus, although to their own specs and stamp their own logo. in my opinion, unless you change your exhaust system from headers to sports cat to bigger diameter pipes, muffler alone is purely for looks and sound. performance is minimal, so it never makes a diff. and even when you improve your exhaust to this extent, you should pair it up with better efficiency intake. otherwise, muffler alone could be categorised as a cosmetic mod.

Is there any good reason to justify the extra $$ switching to BMW tuner brands like Breyton (~ $2K) as compared to say, Remus (~ $1K)?

Is there a difference in performance or sound?

FYI, ACS exhaust is OEM by Remus. So, dun think the premium is justified. :screwedu:

Called Fong Kim yesteday. They said ~ $900+ for a Remus for the 318i. Half hour job.

Will check out Jeep Chee too, since they are quite near.

Thanks for the info.

Changing to a free-er flowing exhaust will result in an increase in high end power at the expense of low end torque right?

On NA cars, changing the exhaust does not do much of anything for anyone... IMHO.

Except for more "garang" sound. This was my intention for changing to ACS exhaust in the first place cos the Valvetronic sounded too tame compared to the M54 engines/exhaust.

any idea on how to lower the boomy noise at the lower revs?

i have the remus ti tip fitted on my 325i!

BTW, does installing an aftermarket exhaust like Remus void any PML warranty? (besides the exhaust of course)

Is it recommended to install it on a brand new car?
