Body value of e46

i was offered 86k for an dec/02 e46, omv about 38k, coe 28k.

the dealer told me the car has high body value even after 5th year.

question is, how much is the body value at its 5th or 6th year?

Re: Body value of e46

all dealers will tell you the car has a high body value when you are buying and a low body value when you are selling... dont think this will change anytime soon.

body value is also affected by the demand at that time.

Re: Body value of e46

What body value? :)

Like what martmode8850 said, depends on demand and supply. If you are deregistering together with hundreds of other E46, then the price will be lower. If there is no demand in places like NZ, Cyprus, etc, then price will be lower.

If you're buying, calculate based on worst case scenario... anything else would be a bonus...

Re: Body value of e46

thanks, that's why i'm asking around down here.. gotta discount a bit from what the dealer told me :naughty:

but in general, how much can i expect on the body at its 5th year.. 10k?

Re: Body value of e46

You have not mentioned the capacity of your car yet.

Re: Body value of e46

A fren juz exported her 2000 model 320 (2.0L version) and got $10k for the car body. U may wish to state whether yours is a 318i (2.0L) or 320i (2.2L).

Re: Body value of e46

oh, so sorry..didn't realise.
its a 2 liter 318i reg in dec02.
from the feedback i gather, its likely 10k thereabouts..

hmm..that dealer actually tried kotok me.. he said 5th yr can worth 15-20k, so no worries about not breaking even :furious:

Re: Body value of e46

thanks for the link. its very helpful

btw, i was told by a relative of mine to compare (he showed me a spreadsheet), assuming both omv same at 41k, and body 23k (at their 3rd year),
1. dec/2002 318i, paper is 55k (coe 31k) and
2. dec/2005 320i paper is 41k (coe 10k)

when both are at their 3rd year old, body+paper for each is
1. 78k
2. 64k.

that means, pre-owned car will be even cheaper to sell/buy right?
his point is to save on the loan interest cos the amt needed to borrow will be significantly lower, with the same amt of downpayment plonked in.

he's also holding out for the current batch of low coe cars to reach 2-3yrs before going in to buy one.
sounds convincing, but is that a true reflection?

Re: Body value of e46

DEpending on models on the spread. But it is a good guage, afterall you are selling the body for export. So the final export price should be slightly higher than body price for profits to exporters

Re: Body value of e46

Depending on car price 2 to 3 years later. If it rises due to higher coe, than maybe it may be quoted a higher premium. Also depends on models and demand in export countries. If it is high at that time you would like to sell, your body is more expensive.
Also by 2008, a 318 may not fetch a higher price than 320 due to 2 points
1) Older model
2) Past 5 years

Also look at selling price of the car
The selling price for 318 2002 was about 150K vs 320 2006 at 125K
So you should pay lower for 320 in 3 years time vs buying a 3 year old 318 now.

Re: Body value of e46

Just a thought
Praf of 2002 car at end of 10 years ( Assuming OMV 45K) is about 29 K
Annual depreication is 7K (at 78K)
Using the same annual depreciation for 320 year 2005
OMV at 40 K , end of 10 years, praf refund at 22K
At 7K depreciation per annual, it should be worth about 71K

Hope it makes sense.

Re: Body value of e46

Car body prices fluctuate based on demand. Don't bother with artificial inflations. More likely down than up. A 318 is a good drive but isn't a collector's car or a rarity. So unlikely will be too high.

And anyway, even if he wanted to scrap the car now, he still can't take full paper value. Cos parf paper is sold for cash at a %age loss. is it still 7% now? or wot?

Re: Body value of e46

PARF paper at 5% discount (some negotiable to 3%), according to one dealer I talked to, seems like the amount of dereg PARF paper not as much as before.

Re: Body value of e46

Sell to dealer straight if you want to trade in car. They should absorb full value
