am just curious to ask this.. any 335i bros installed a BOV to their rides ? izzit necessary ?

Re: Bov

No, not necessary, we need the excess gas to be recirculated as the engine was designed to be like that.

would be cool to see anyone do it..keke

Hmm but BMW put BOV very strange ? Also auto gears, put BOV don sound nice also. Hmmm but its my view only la kekeke :lol2:

Re: Bov

u will lose boost=power if u put a bov on a 335. Dont need.

Re: Bov

Doesn't the 335i come with a diverter valve rather than a blow off valve?

Besides, a blow off valve would sound positively vulgar on a BMW.

Re: Bov

The stock diverter valve only good for 6-8psi..
need to upgrade to Forged Diverter valve for Proceded '14psi' users...

Re: Bov

factory bov's are better than aftermarket anyway. aftermarket just has sound, no hp gain, in fact most likely a loss

Actually the main thing that is of paramount importance is the spring rates you use for the diverter valves. And the N54 doesnt use a BOV but a diverter valve, where it recycles the air back into the manifold. Placing a BOV means that the air is not recirculated back into the manifold and this can lead to the ECU pulling back on timing eventually.

Not really a "must have" but a "good to have". :)

Hmm... green springs or yellow springs....

I'll go for yellow. I know that the diverter valves must go because at high rpms when you shift, you can feel something inconsistent. Sometimes it can hold the boost at high rpms, sometimes it cant and it will taper off much sooner. I though it was a problem with my car and read abt it and it seems that this is a known problem with stock diverter valves. The stock ones has a marginal tolerance of abt 4 psi only, which makes sense, as at higher altitude, the ECU has to compensate for the thinner air by running more boost. But for us proceeded cars, where on V2, you are running at a max of abt 15psi, that is way above the tolerance. I strongly suggest most V2 cars do this mod. It just makes the car much healthier and consistently sustainable under high rpm. Even if u dont perceive this to be a necessary mod, it sure as hell is a good mod to have as the stock diverter valves are plastic and i reckon for the heat our N54 engines are putting out, its a good idea to replace them to a better material.

Re: Bov

how many psi boost is a proceeded 335 running?

Omar, we posted at the same time, you answered my question, thanks. For sure you need to upgrade the diverter then.

Re: Bov

Its funny how history has a habit of repeating itself.

When I used to hang around TT forums years ago, one of the chief sources of complaint among TT owners was how useless the stock diverter valve was. Motoring nirvana could only be achieved if the owner dumped the stock valve and replaced it with a Forge DV. Especially if the ECU had been tampered with to increase boost.

Re: Bov

aiyah Sam, at least wash your car once in awhile is enough!!

Perver, yep, funny how it comes full circle

No prob phil. Its a must do. Because of altitude differences, most diverter valves has to incorporate some kinda tlerance. I am actually surprised that on this part itself, BMW kinda compromised as its just good for stock. All else said, I think they did a great job on the tolerance on the N54 engine.

Look at that beauty.

Aiyah, can give me a reason NOT to mod my car!

Stock is best :)

Yeah rite. WHere is my seesha? :nehnehhh:

Re: Bov

One of the editor for EVO magazine has a 335i estate. One day his CEL came on, and when he took it to the workshop it was diagnosed both turbos failed because the diverter valve failed. Hey this guy never Procede OK??? :) Just trackday 2X only ... kenna failure liao...

Anyway, turbo replacement to be done for that guy...

From just one experience can't tell.. but plastic valve???? LOL!
