I think hardened brake pedal before engine start is an early sign for pump so pls fix immediately else may lead to booster damage which much more costlier. I learn it the expensive way.
Do you mean when starting the engine, the brake pedal depresses slightly instead of all the way down, this is an early sign of brake pump failure? What needs to be replaced and what's the damage?
