'Breaking-in' a new car

I was wondering whether anyone 'breaks-in' their new car? As seen at this link. is it really necessary? Does it help?

Break in a BMW as in smash the windscreen and chu-ree the cashcard? :)

Most likely your car has already been run-in by some guy at the dock :D

the manual states that should not exceed 4500rpm before clocking 2000km on the odo.

You mean running in the engine right? I suppose it is important to ask the right thing so the right feedback can be given, else OT. Thank you.

i was told by my SE that all our cars are run in already.....? anyway i did not really bother, after 500km, i ram the shit over the rpm and suprisingly, the comsumption gt better..heheheeh

For years, I followed the old adage of taking the car for a long joyride to 'ram' the engine once you hit past 5,000km mark... great advice handed down from seasoned mechanics and car aficionados...

Sorry if anyone misunderstood, i got that term from online searching :p. Yeah i do mean run-in the engine. pai seh ah!

just stick to what the manual says and all will be well. only 2000km so it will pass.
