That is news to me. My fren exported his July 2001 525i with mileage slightly more than 100,000km. Could well be that the exporter played with the odometer before exporting it.

Yeah..that's strange, can't one just go to a good workshop and "tweak" the mileage? Which sort of means that the mileage doesn't matter much rite?

But I was told that while one can "tweak" the odometer so that when u start the engine, u see the mileage the exporter want u to see but if run diagnostics, apparently the tool can read the true mileage. All these I heard one. Dunno how true.

Depends on which country. I believe this requirement is for NZ?

More than 3 years, very few places will accept the car.

Anyway, for the BMWs, the mileage is stored in several places, so with the diagnostic tool you can read the actual mileage anyway. Saw it with my own eyes when I was in KL, and one of the mechanics was testing this car before purchasing, mileage on odometer was 46,000; with the diag tool, it was 126,000. Wow. BTW, this will generate a fault code too.

Not sure if you can't export, but heard that the price you can get for the car is much lower if mileage above 100k. So the dealers may not want to export those.

It depends on the legislation of the country you intend to export to. For example NZ---->

You can export any car of any age and mileage to NZ. The only catch is to get a certificate of compliance (to all their requirements such as frontal impact, seat belts and etc) direct from the manufacturer. That itself is an almost impossible task.
