Re: car accident with FT
Hi bro,
Any accident that require the insured party to be admitted into hospital, is considered medical injuries which the insurance co have to cover.
Based on what we all know, any incident involved the back of our car, usually lies on the rear ender's fault i.e. failure to keep a proper distance.
However, for the front part of our car, there are two absolute nightmare scenarios that i come to know where being insured is like having no insurance protection, esp for those that ultra expensive or expensive to repair cars.
(i) getting hit by those FT esp lorries, like the abnn above, in the event the co claim he is not authorized to drive / disclaim liability, his low wage will not cover your repairs, so even you sue him to bankruptcy will not be worthwhile; and
(ii) getting hit by a drunk driver
You guys can refer to this thread I read a while back a GTR that got hit by a drunk driver, and basically the other party insurance company is able to disclaim any liability on the policy based on "drunk driver clause". I think one of the thread poster in there shared quite a lot of insight as to how our local insurance co operates.
Hit by drunk driver last night - NAGTROC - The Nissan GT-R Owners Club
For most other cases involving locals, expats, more well to do types... whether taxis or private cars, i think the insurance firms will still settle it amongst themselves somehow, abeit not always to your advantage, even if you are not at fault unless you have irrefutable evidence, e.g. video coverage.
Otherwise, you still have to engage your own lawyers to claim against the other party, in which case you hope they have the means to pay for your repairs caused.
Think i better go install my car cam soon !

Seems not right according to my experience. My wife was hit from behind by a taxi in April. No visible injuries, she just complained of slightly chest pain (due to seat belt I think). The ambulance took her to the hospital straightaway. Police came in later to take picture, investigated the scene, etc. 1 month later they mailed us the report blaming the taxi driver and said action would be taken against him.
Last month, my car camera recorded an accident, which I emailed to SPF. They assigned an officer to investigate. She managed to contact the insurance company of the car affected (although this car plate can't be seen in the video), and forwarded them the video for reference if claim arise. She emailed to inform me the investigation result as above (with details such as car plate number and insurance company name, etc,. after around 1 month too).
