What makes you say that?

Actually last year a lot of people speculated last year that COE will crash this year. They used those statistics like number of cars deregistered and what not... but no crash or hard landing. maybe that's how people feel, it will remain at such prices?

If I'm not wrong we are still in the COE clawback period. 3Q this FY we should see a slight increase of quotas. And yes the dereg supply will come for sure. Add in 10 years and 6 months (for the delay) to the start of the mountain in 2003, and we should have a good 2014 onwards. Unless u know who steps in again. Just my personal guess.

Sigh. Garhmen allowed how many million people in over the past few years again? And we wonder why car prices and house prices keep being so stubbornly high?

Does it really take a scholar to figure the reason why?

What to do... I guess the scholars' growth bonuses and variable market bonuses are pegged to GDP growth rates and such. And how do you keep GDP up even without real improvements in productivity? Hehz..

Re: Car interest rates up .............

Gahmen should build better infrastructure with the money collected ...... Only know how to build accident prone puny flyovers.

They should build more expressways (long over the island types) or underground passage ways since they were digging around for the MRT trains. Lack engenuity .... Only know how to lay bitumen on flat ground ......

Re: Car interest rates up .............

The higher loan interest rate is expected when the car loans are regulated.

Let's rem how it all began when s'poreans started whining about higher COEs.

When the whining gets irritating, actions will come in.

Now, the whiners have to eat back their own words.

All whiners want are: low COE; low interest rate; 10-yr loan. Period.

If the bitumen stayed on the ground it's still ok. But nowadays you get potholes everywhere!

I prefer that if we have to pay for high COE, then we should have no traffic jams, and beautifully paved roads that won't kill your rims or suspension.

Unfortunately now even though we have high COE, there are jams everywhere, and fiaked up roads. Add to that the ERP and you get a triple whammy. LTA pls wake up...

Re: Car interest rates up .............

Didn't want to start a new topic unnecessarily. Question is also related to this topic.

With the temporary lifting of car loan restrictions for used cars coming to an end soon, in early June, how do you guys think it will affect the prices of used cars, and how soon?

My take is that it would drive down the prices, but not at an alarming rate for sure. The used car dealers would probably all monitor what each other are doing and lower accordingly to match the market rate.

All the information I gathered were from the news and unofficial prediction was based on that. As I am not in Singapore, I can't really talk to a the dealers etc.

I am getting a car this early June (after the restrictions are lifted). Would really appreciate what you guys have to say about the prices so I can decide if I should hold on a bit more and wait for the prices to drop. Thanks!

Distance based ERP won't solve the problem of jams either. It hits a person that stays in Pasir Ris and works in rural Lim Chu Kang far more compared to a guy who stays in Braddell and works in the CBD. Yet, the route of the second guy, whilst attracting less distance based tax, ultimately causes more social problems in the form of traffic congestion. This distance based ERP could potentially become another harebrained scholarly idea if it's not implemented properly. LTA better think hard on how that guy working in congested CBD will pay more "distance-based" ERP than the farmer in rural Lim Chu Kang.

P.S. I work in the CBD, so I'm not arguing to save my own a**. Just annoyed that the whole system seems to have been so poorly managed till today. I pay a small fortune in ERP everyday but I just get lousy roads and neverending jams!
