Any bro tried ceramic coated mainfold / extractor ? Per read up , the ceramic coating will reduce embient temp of the engine bay thereby improve engine efficiency ( colder air ) also prolong life of components.:woowooo:

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

Yes, ive done it a few times. It is the ducks guts, a MUST have IMO. Also done it on intake manifolds etc

Saw advertisement on Hot Stuff . Hv yet to call up. A shop in Sunway does it for approx RM 800 -- just for you to compare the pricing.

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

I dun know how many ponies were gained, it was done on boat engines that were 1500+hp as it is. A few mates have done it on their hot rods as well. It's the in thing right now

hmmm, a shop in Malaysia does it? Are they experienced? Just send it to Aus, to HPC coatings, they are the best.

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

there're a few few shops here that does it. go look up in hotstuff mag.

have already checked it out. need to leave your car in the workshop whilst they coat it. have to remove all the parts, spray on ceramic coat, bake it, and re-install it.

and whilst you're at it, might as well get the following parts coated - intake manifolds, extractors / headers, exhaust (up to the muffler), radiator, intercooler (for TC and SC)...

might take a few days...

alternatively, you can go to fong kim and get your headers / extractors wrapped with heat-resistant fibre. same difference, lower cost, and only takes about 3-4 hours.

power gains? negligible. mebbe only butt feel. but the engine bay definitely feels less hot. and engine cools down faster. also changes the sound of your exhaust - deeper, lower pitched, louder growl.

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

thermal wrap adds weight, and the internal temp of the mainfold higher which leads to speedy internal corrosion . But if the leadtime and cost difference is high , the wrapping route shld be ok.

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

this mod , maybe can gain 1/2 a young pony.

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

mine cost less than $200. but you'd have to find out the cost of wrapping an e90 extractor.

frankly speaking, it's the waiting that almost killed me...

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

oi shameless, u interested?

will prob be going to rod's place tomorrow. you can take a look at mine.

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

wah jin, sorry man! i'm in milan.......they say yr car is very souped up....... must be the wraps!!!! hee

Re: Ceramic coating --good or not

they are mistaken. my car only looks fast.

btw, the thermal wraps are rather light - it's just fibreglass cloth fastened to the manifolds with clamps. won't make much diff to the overall weight unless you're driving a lotus. wouldn't have installed them otherwise cos i'm trying desperately to reduce weight (both car and myself).
