Ooiii Hiadees, the Lunar 7th month has arrived. And soon its mooncake time. Ok that's not the topic here, soli.

Came across many E9Xers who had changed their mountings. Usually mileage of their cars are between 100000km to 120000km range. Most had been advised to change them by WS who spotted wearing or are asked to changed them because "it is about time". Apparently these wear-n-tear items causes the car to vibrate unusually during start-stop. Google it and you will also find that 'experts' says it affect some other things. Essentially its like the Engine and Tranny are wearing worn out shoes so time to change your sandals.

SO AH...ERR HMMM. is it a must to change this? Yours truly's pariah-es are 100k to 120k liao but I haven't felt those so called vibrations leh. Hope the residents of the 7th months wont come and vibrate my car of course.

This is the location of the engine mounting

Please have the car lift up and check the condition of the mounting and then u decide if u want to change the engine mounting

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Don't think you are going to be able to check the engine mounting by just looking at it from below ........

And are you suggesting that ABD take out the engine to compare with s new one to decide ?

Have it inspected at a BMW workshop then

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Bro Aaron, that first pic of the engine mounting looks terrible. whats the car mileage when it looked like this. This can serve as a guide for other car owners.

That time was 140,000 KM mileage.
Hope my pictures help u to decide better if u want to change the mountings

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

If your engine has sunk in by 2-3 cm then you should change.

Do this with your hiadee -

- start engine
- step on brake
- engage D
- open bonnet
- ask your hiadee to look at engine
- rev engine to 2k rpm (do not release brake)
- stop rev
- ask hiadee see engine tilt to one side by how many cm just now
- repeat if hiadee miss

And if changing engine mount - usually also change transmission mounts also if never change before.

Using mileage to gauge whether need to change not zhun because wear and tear also depends how you use your right foot.....

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

i changed my mounting at 40k km @ 5yrs old. felt vibration and rough drive... after change, all smooth and good... can see the old mount sink in but not as bad as the bro whom showed the picture...

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

I just changed bushes at the front after I had slight vibration at 90kph . Now all smooth .. Mileage is 123000 . And they looked liked Aaron's very worn out . U can test it by driving forward even at slow speed and hit the brakes hard, if u hear a clung then it's time to change . Hope it helps

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Engine mounting wear rate are very subjective. Some wears off earlier than usual. It all boils down to your driving lifestyle.
Mine was replaced at 80 556km Mileage (13-12-13, car age 3 years one month plus) together with the gearbox mounting.

It wasn't as bad as Aaron's picture actually. I felt my dash board vibrates during picking up.

My advise : Get Original BMW ones (as in BMW packaging) OEM ones will not last.

Cheers ~~~~ :)

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Hearsay some get 335 or M mounts as replacements for E90s etc ......

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Hi seniors ...

Let me share with you ... 335i warranty left 1 year plus.... back then

At 40,000km i feel more vibrations on my steering and at Munich ... they say no need to change ...
Went to 5 different WS in this website and all confirm engine mounting ...
They say computer say no fault!

SO have to bang table and ask them explain why vibrations ... they say my car is sports car so is very powerful car and sure got vibrations ....

In the end after my slam table, they say they will change for me 1 unit... so i asked how many units on our car ... they say 2 ... WTF ... so i agreed to pay 1 set on my pocket and same for transmission mounting ...

TMD ... 170 for 1 side of mounting ... (from eng soon you can buy 133 + 33 = 1 set) so again kana smoke. Same for transmission mountings as well ...

According to workshops ... these are rubber and when under load they are compressed and when due course and stressed they sagged .... If you feel heavy vibrattions do change then and compare the new vs the old ones ...

after change vibrations minimium or none ...

Now car at 65k .... starts coming again ...

Not too sure if e 92 mounting can upgrade to M (e92 mountings ?) hearsay some mounts are meant for manual cars ...

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Your 600nm monster would need better mounts for the engine, transmission and rear diffs.

Engine see if can order the 335is mounts on the right side.....Vorslag for the transmission mounts ....and delrin for the rear diffs ......

Feel your teeth chatter after that ..... Haha !

Re: Change Engine mounting & Transmission mounting

Just changed my engine and gearbox mounts today. 160,000km. And BOY! I wished I had done it sooner!! It's now super smooth like what a BMW should be all over again! When I first collected by my car, I already felt the difference the moment I pushed the engine start button.

I was so used to the old vibrations. And at the first traffic light I stopped at, the engine was so smooth and quiet that I had to check my tachometer as I thought my engine had stalled!!

Bought from ES - engine mounts @ $42 per piece, and gearbox mounts @ $14 per piece. Replacement labour not included.

Old car feels new again! =)
